Jerry McAuliffe
John Augustine "Jerry" McAuliffe (27 August 1909 – 4 May 1959) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family John Augustine McAuliffe was born at Kalgoorlie, Western Australia on 27 August 1909. He married Ethel Dorothea Edna Dempsey (1909–1968) at St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne on 8 January 1938. Football University Blacks (MAFA/VAFA) In between 1928 and 1933 he played for the University Blacks in the Metropolitan Amateur Football Association (MAFA), later known as the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA), and also a number of times for Melbourne University in its interstate matches with Adelaide University. Kalgoorlie is a city in the Goldfields–Esperance region of Western Australia, located east-northeast of Perth at the end of the Great Eastern Highway. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne
The Cathedral Church and Minor Basilica of Saint Patrick (colloquially St Patrick's Cathedral) is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia, and seat of its archbishop, currently Peter Comensoli. In 1974 Pope Paul VI conferred the title and dignity of minor basilica on it. In 1986 Pope John Paul II visited the cathedral and addressed clergy during his papal visit. Victorian Amateur Football Association
The Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) is the largest senior community Australian rules football competition in Victoria. It consists of seven senior men's and women's divisions ranging from Premier to Division 4. In addition there are U19's sections and five Thirds sections, primarily made up of either clubs only able to field one team, or clubs from higher sections that can field a third team after their seniors and reserves. The league operates a double promotion and relegation system between sections with various rules dictating which section clubs can play in.
