Jerry Mallett
Gerald Gordon Mallett (born September 18, 1935 in Bonne Terre, Missouri) is an American former center fielder in Major League Baseball who played briefly for the Boston Red Sox during the 1959 season. Listed at , , he batted and threw right-handed. A two-sport star at Baylor University, Mallett was a Syracuse Nationals' fourth-round pick in the 1957 NBA draft. Instead, he opted for baseball and signed as a free agent with Boston in the same year. In a four game-career, Mallett was a .267 hitter (4-for-15) with a scored run and an RBI. A center fielder, abbreviated CF, is the outfielder in baseball who plays defense in center field – the baseball and softball fielding position between left field and right field. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the center fielder is assigned the number 8. The Minneapolis Millers were an American professional minor league baseball team that played in Minneapolis, Minnesota, through 1960. In the 19th century a different Minneapolis Millers were part of the Western League. The team played first in Athletic Park and later Nicollet Park. History The name Minneapolis Millers has been associated with a variety of professional minor league teams. The original Millers date back to 1884 when the Northwestern League was formed. This league failed and the Western League replaced it, absorbing some of the old teams. According to Stew Thornley, this team folded in 1891 due to financial problems.
