Jerry Doyle (politician)
Jerry J. Doyle (born August 1, 1941) is a former provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1989 to 1993 sitting with the opposition New Democratic Party caucus. Political career Doyle ran as a candidate for the New Democrats in the 1989 Alberta general election. He defeated Progressive Conservative incumbent Ian Reid to pick up the West Yellowhead electoral district for his party. Rogersville, New Brunswick
Rogersville is a community in Northumberland County, New Brunswick, built around the Intersection of New Brunswick Route 126 and New Brunswick Route 440. It was an incorporated village until the end of 2022. History The village is named in honour of the Roman Catholic Bishop, the Most Reverend James Rogers, late Bishop of Chatham, New Brunswick. Rogersville is the home of two Trappist (Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance) monasteries, Notre-Dame de l'Assomption Abbey (Our Lady of the Assumption Abbey for women) and Notre Dame du Calvaire Abbey (Our Lady of Calvary Abbey for men). It is also the burial place of the man considered the Father of Modern Acadia—(Bishop) Monseigneur Marcel-Francois Richard, and the site of a monument containing his sarcophagus. West Yellowhead (electoral District)
West Yellowhead is a provincial electoral district in Alberta, Canada. The district is one of 87 current ridings mandated to return a single member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta using the first past the post method of voting. The district in its early history was a swing riding, changing party hands often. More recently, support has gone to electing candidates from the Progressive Conservatives, who have held the district with sizable majorities since 1997. The current representative is UCP Martin Long who was first elected in the 2019 provincial election. Ian Reid (Alberta Politician)
Ian Wilson Carlyle Reid (May 27, 1931 – January 18, 2016) was a provincial level politician from Alberta, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1979 to 1989. During his time in office, Reid served various portfolios in the Executive Council of Alberta under the Governments of Peter Lougheed and Don Getty from 1983 to 1989. Political career Reid ran for a seat to the Alberta Legislature for the first time in the 1979 Alberta general election. He won the electoral district of Edson by a wide margin defeating three other candidates to hold it for the governing Progressive Conservative party. He served his first term in the back benches. Reid won his second term in office in the 1982 Alberta general election. A year after the election on December 20, 1983, Premier Peter Lougheed appointed Reid to his first position in the Alberta Executive Council as Solicitor General. 1989 Alberta General Election
The 1989 Alberta general election was held on March 20, 1989, to elect members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. Many political observers were surprised by the early election call as less than three years had passed since the previous election. Premier Don Getty, in his second election as Progressive Conservative Party leader, led it to its sixth consecutive term in government, although supported by less than half the votes cast in the election. Despite losing a significant share of the popular vote, the PC's benefited from a split vote between the two main opponents Liberals and NDP.
