Douglas William Jerrold
Douglas William Jerrold (London 3 January 18038 June 1857 London) was an English dramatist and writer. Biography Jerrold's father, Samuel Jerrold, was an actor and lessee of the little theatre of Wilsby near Cranbrook in Kent. In 1807 Douglas moved to Sheerness, where he spent his childhood. He occasionally took a child part on the stage, but his father's profession held little attraction for him. In December 1813 he joined the guardship ''Namur'', where he had Jane Austen's brother Charles Austen as captain, and served as a midshipman until the peace of 1815. He saw nothing of the war save a number of wounded soldiers from Waterloo, but he retained an affection for the sea. The peace of 1815 ruined Jerrold's father; on 1 January 1816 he took his family to London, where Douglas began work as a printer's apprentice, and in 1819 he became a compositor in the printing-office of the ''Sunday Monitor''. Walter Copeland Jerrold (3 May 1865 – 27 October 1929) was an English writer, biographer and newspaper editor. Early life Jerrold was born in Liverpool, the son of Thomas Serle Jerrold and Jane Matilda Copeland (who were first cousins), and one of 11 children. His family had strong theatrical connections: Both his grandfather Douglas William Jerrold and uncle William Blanchard Jerrold were notable dramatists, and his great grandfather Samuel Jerrold was an actor and theater manager. Career Jerrold spent most of his life in London, starting work as a clerk in a newspaper counting-house, and going on to become deputy editor of ''The Observer''. William Blanchard Jerrold
William Blanchard Jerrold (London 23 December 1826 – 10 March 1884), was an English journalist and author. Biography He was born in London, the eldest son of the dramatist, Douglas William Jerrold. Due to his disagreements with the practices at the elite Mao ("Martin's Academy at Old Slaughter's") school, where he was educated for two and a half years, he left school and began working on newspapers at an early age. He was appointed the Crystal Palace commissioner to Sweden in 1853, and wrote ''A Brage-Beaker with the Swedes'' (1854) on his return. In 1855 he was sent to the World's Fair in Paris, the '' Exposition Universelle'', as correspondent for several London papers, and from that time he lived much in Paris. In 1857 he succeeded his father as editor of ''Lloyd's Weekly Newspaper'', a post which he held for twenty-six years. Jerrold Lewis Nadler (; born June 13, 1947) is an American lawyer and politician who since 2013 has served as the U.S. representative for , which includes Manhattan's west side and parts of Brooklyn. A member of the Democratic Party, he is in his 15th term in Congress. He was originally elected to represent the state's 17th congressional district (1992–1993), which was renumbered the 8th congressional district (1993–2013) and now is the 10th. Jerrold Electronics was an American provider of cable television equipment, including subscriber converter boxes, distribution network equipment (amplifiers, multitap outlets), and headend equipment in the United States. History The company was founded by future Pennsylvania governor Milton Jerrold Shapp (the company name was derived from his middle name) in 1950. The company was one of the earliest pioneers of community antenna television systems (cable television). The company headquarters was located at 401 Walnut Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Shapp sold the company to General Instrument in 1967. However, the Jerrold brand name continued to be used on equipment into the 1990s. Jerrold Northrop Moore (born 1934) is an American-born British musicologist, best known for a biography and other writings on the life and music of Sir Edward Elgar. He is also an authority on the history of the gramophone. Biography Moore was born in Paterson, New Jersey and was brought up in the United States. Jerrold Immel (born 9 September 1936 in Los Angeles, California) is a United States television music composer, whose most famous works are the theme tune to the soap opera ''Dallas'' and ''Voyagers!''. Before moving into scoring, Immel worked as a music copyist at CBS, before getting his break into television scoring on ''Gunsmoke''.
