Jerri Allyn
Jerri Allyn is an American feminist performance, installation artist and educator based in Los Angeles, California. Biography Allyn earned an M.A. in Art and Community from Goddard College in 1978 and also attended The Feminist Studio Workshop at the Los Angeles Woman's Building from 1978-1978. Allyn was active in the feminist art movement, co-founding multiple feminist performance groups in the 1970s and 1980s. The first of these was "The Waitresses," co-founded with Anne Gauldin in 1977. All of the members of the group were waitresses, and through their often comedic performances, they explored the cultural perception of women as nurturers as well as what labor conditions were like for women in the service industry. The group performed in restaurants and other public spaces and on one occasion formed The All-City Waitress Marching Band to perform in a parade. Jerri Mumford
Minnie "Jerri" Mumford (1909–2002) was a British-born Canadian World War II servicewoman. After serving as Commandant of the Halifax Women's Service Corps, an early Atlantic Canadian women's army corps, Mumford subsequently joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC). She served overseas for three years, and was one of the only CWAC members chosen to accompany the invading Allied forces to Italy in 1944. Early life Mumford was born January 4, 1909, in Devon, England. In 1930, Mumford immigrated to Canada and began working as a governess, teaching the children of a naval lieutenant. Career In 1938, Mumford began to be interested in the idea of forming a women's army corps. Two years later she became Commandant of the Halifax Women's Service Corps, an early Atlantic Canadian predecessor to the Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC). Jerri Nielsen
Jerri Lin Nielsen ( Cahill; March 1, 1952 – June 23, 2009) was an American physician with extensive emergency room experience, who self-treated her breast cancer while stationed at Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica until she could be evacuated safely. In 1998, during the southern winter, at a time when the station is physically cut off from the rest of the world, she developed breast cancer. Nielsen teleconferenced with medical personnel in the United States and had to operate on herself in order to extract tissue samples for analysis. A military plane was later dispatched to the pole to airdrop equipment and medications. Her condition remained life-threatening, and the first plane to land at the station in the spring was sent several weeks earlier than planned, despite adverse weather conditions, to take her to the U.S. as soon as possible.
