Jerome Ringo
Jerome C. Ringo (born March 2, 1955) is an environmental justice, clean energy, and quality jobs advocate who founded and chairs renewable energy developer Zoetic Global. Ringo previously chaired the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), becoming the first African American to hold the position for any major conservation organization, and was an associate research scholar and McCluskey Fellow for Conservation at Yale University. He was also president of the Apollo Alliance, a coalition of organized labor, environmentalist, business, and civil rights leaders dedicated to freeing the United States of dependence on foreign oil. Jerome (; la, Eusebius Sophronius Hieronymus; grc-gre, Εὐσέβιος Σωφρόνιος Ἱερώνυμος; – 30 September 420), also known as Jerome of Stridon, was a Christian priest, confessor, theologian, and historian; he is commonly known as Saint Jerome. Jerome was born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia. He is best known for his translation of the Bible into Latin (the translation that became known as the Vulgate) and his commentaries on the whole Bible. Jerome attempted to create a translation of the Old Testament based on a Hebrew version, rather than the Septuagint, as Latin Bible translations used to be performed before him. His list of writings is extensive, and beside his biblical works, he wrote polemical and historical essays, always from a theologian's perspective.
