Jerome Davis (sprinter)
Jerome Davis (born August 22, 1977) is an American former sprinter. He attended college at the University of Southern California, and was the Pacific-10 Conference champion in the men's 400m dash four consecutive years from 1996 through 1999. As a sophomore, Davis finished third at the 1997 NCAA men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 45.36 In 1998, he won the NCAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship in the 400m event with a time of 45.18. Despite improving his time in the NCAA championships the following year, Davis finished third again, being edged out by LSU's Derrick Brew by 2 one-hundredths of a second for second place. At the 1999 World University Games, Davis took gold, with a time of 44.91. Ridgecrest is a city in Kern County, California, United States, along U.S. Route 395 in California, U.S. Route 395 in the Indian Wells Valley in northeastern Kern County, adjacent to the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake (NAWS, or China Lake). The Athletics Tournament at the 1999 Summer Universiade took place in the new Estadio Son Moix in Palma de Mallorca, Spain from July 4 to July 9, 1999. Five Universiade records were set. A total of 23 men's and 22 women's events were contested (the programme remaining identical to the previous edition with steeplechase being for men only). The United States topped the athletics medal table (as it did in 1997) with a total of 25 medals, twelve of them gold. Romania and Cuba were the next strongest nations, with six and five gold medals respectively. Romania was the only other nation to reach double figures in the medal tally.
