Jeremy Ring
Jeremy Ring (born August 10, 1970) is an American Democratic politician and former tech startup executive from Florida. He served in the Florida Senate from 2006 to 2016, representing parts of Broward County. He was the Democratic nominee for Chief Financial Officer of Florida in the 2018 election. Early life and career Ring was born in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1970. He grew up in Canton, Massachusetts and attended Canton Public Schools. He attended Syracuse University, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelors of Applied Science in advertising. Ring was one of the early employees of Yahoo, opening the company's first East Coast office and working to build the company up. In 2001, Ring moved to Florida, working as an executive in other tech and innovation startups. In 2018, Jeremy Ring wrote a book called "We Were Yahoo" which discusses his time working at Yahoo. Florida Senate
The Florida Senate is the upper house of the Florida Legislature, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Florida, the Florida House of Representatives being the lower house. Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution of Florida, adopted in 1968, defines the role of the Legislature and how it is to be constituted. The Senate is composed of 40 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of approximately 540,000 residents. 2018 Florida Gubernatorial Election
The 2018 Florida gubernatorial election was held on November 6, 2018, to elect the next governor of Florida, alongside an election to the United States Senate, elections to the United States House of Representatives and other state and local elections. Incumbent two-term Republican governor Rick Scott was term-limited and could not run for a third term, so he instead ran for Florida's Class I Senate seat. Republican U.S. Representative Ron DeSantis narrowly defeated Democratic Mayor of Tallahassee Andrew Gillum for the governorship, in what some considered an upset. The candidate filing deadline was June 22, 2018, and primary elections were held on August 28. Richard Lynn Scott ( Myers, born December 1, 1952) is an American politician serving as the junior United States senator from Florida since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he was the 45th governor of Florida from 2011 to 2019. Scott is a graduate of the University of Missouri–Kansas City and the Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University. In 1987, after serving in the United States Navy and becoming a law firm partner, he co-founded Columbia Hospital Corporation. Jeffrey Hardee Atwater (born April 8, 1958) is an American financier who served as the 3rd Chief Financial Officer of Florida from 2011 to 2017, and currently serves as Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Chief Financial Officer at Florida Atlantic University. The 2012 United States presidential election in Florida took place on November 6, 2012, as part of the 2012 general election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. Florida voters chose 29 electors to represent them in the Electoral College via a popular vote pitting incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and his running mate, Vice President Joe Biden, against Republican challenger and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and his running mate, Congressman Paul Ryan. By November 8, the vote counting had still not concluded.
