Jeremy Fisher (author)
Jeremy Fisher, born 9 November 1954 in Te Ahora, New Zealand, was an Executive Director of the Australian Society of Authors (ASA). He is a writer and worked in publishing for 30 years. His best-known novel is ''Perfect Timing''. Career Fisher is openly gay and has been an advocate for gay rights in Australia since 1973. In 1973 he became the centre point of The Pink Ban. By 1978 he was a member of the New South Wales Labor Party in the Glebe branch. He was awarded the inaugural medal of the Australian Society of Indexers for his index to the fourth edition of the ''Australian Encyclopaedia The ''Australian Encyclopaedia'' is an encyclopedia focused on Australia. Australian Society Of Authors
The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) was formed in 1963 as the organisation to promote and protect the rights of Australia's authors and illustrators. The Fellowship of Australian Writers played a key role it its establishment. The organisation established Public Lending Right (PLR) in 1975 and Educational Lending Right (ELR) in 2000. The ASA was also instrumental in setting up Copyright Agency, the Australian Copyright Council and the International Authors Forum. The ASA provides information and advice on all aspects of writing and publishing. It administers several awards, including the ASA Medal, the Barbara Jefferis Award, the ASA/HQ Commercial Fiction Prize, Blake-Beckett Trust Scholarship, and the Varuna Ray Koppe Young Writers Residency.
