Jens Christian Jensen (mayor)
Jens Christian Jensen (11 May 1928 – 6 April 2013) was a German art historian and curator. Life Born in Lübeck, after the Abitur passed at the Katharineum, Jensen studied art history, classical archaeology, Germanistics and history of Christianity in Heidelberg and Mainz from 1949. He received his doctorate in 1954 with Walter Paatz on ''Master Bertram as a picture carver''. He then worked as a volunteer at the Museum für Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte in Lübeck. From 1958, he was first a research assistant, later curator at the Kurpfälzisches Museum in Heidelberg and from 1968 to 1970 director of the . In 1971, he was appointed the first independent director of the Kunsthalle Kiel and executive chairman of the ''Schleswig-Holsteinischer Kunstverein''. Jensen retired in 1990. Carl Spitzweg
Carl Spitzweg (February 5, 1808 – September 23, 1885) was a German romanticist painter, especially of genre subjects. He is considered to be one of the most important artists of the Biedermeier era. Life and career Spitzweg was born in Unterpfaffenhofen, near Munich, Bavaria, the second of three sons of Franziska (née Schmutzer) and Simon Spitzweg. His father, a wealthy merchant, had Carl trained as a pharmacist. He attained his qualification from the University of Munich but, while recovering from an illness, he took up painting. Spitzweg was self-taught as an artist, starting out by copying the works of Flemish masters. He contributed his first work to satiric magazines. Günter Wilhelm Grass (born Graß; ; 16 October 1927 – 13 April 2015) was a German novelist, poet, playwright, illustrator, graphic artist, sculptor, and recipient of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Literature. Paul Wunderlich (10 March 1927 in Eberswalde – 6 June 2010 in Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols) was a German painter, sculptor and graphic artist. He designed Surrealist paintings and erotic sculptures. He often created paintings which referred to mythological legends. Background Wunderlich was the second child of Horst and Gertrude (née Arendt) Wunderlich. Christian Rohlfs
Christian Rohlfs (November 22, 1849 – January 8, 1938) was a German painter and printmaker, one of the important representatives of German expressionism. Early life and education He was born in Groß Niendorf, Kreis Segeberg in Prussia. He took up painting as a teenager while convalescing from an infection that was eventually to lead to the amputation of a leg in 1874. He began his formal artistic education in Berlin, before transferring, in 1870, to the Weimar Academy.
