Jennifer Saunders (racquetball)
Jennifer "Jen" Saunders (born November 18, 1976) is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Winnipeg, Manitoba. In her last Canadian Championships in 2019, Saunders won both Women's Singles, for a record extending 11th time, and Women's Doubles, for a 13th time. Her 11 Canadian Women's Singles Championships and 24 combined Canadian Women's Singles and Doubles Championships are Canadian women's records. Saunders was the 2009 Manitoba Female Athlete of the Year as voted by the Manitoba Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association. Saunders announced her retirement from competition in December 2019, as she accepted the position of Administrator of High Performance and Sport Development with Racquetball Canada. In July 2020, Saunders was named as one of the 2020 inductees into the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame. Racquetball At The 2015 Pan American Games
Racquetball competitions at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto will be held from July 19 to 26. The venue for the competitions was the Direct Energy Centre (Exhibition Centre) Hall C, due to naming rights the venue will be known as the latter for the duration of the games. The venue also staged the squash competitions. A total of six events were contested (three each for men and women). After the games, the four courts created for the games were disassembled and relocated to Regina, Saskatchewan. Rhonda Rajsich (born October 7, 1978) is an American racquetball player. She has been World Champion in Women's Singles twice, and Pan American Champion 6 times (4 times in Women's Singles & twice in Women's Doubles), as well as US Open champion four times. Rajsich was the #1 player on the Ladies Professional Racquetball Tour season ending rankings four times – three straight seasons from 2005–06 to 2007-08 and then again in 2010–11. She is of Serbian descent. Junior career Rajsich played racquetball several years as a junior with some success, although most of it came in doubles. Josée Grand'Maître (born July 28, 1961) is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Hull, Quebec (now Gatineau, Quebec). Grand'Maître won the Canadian Women's Singles title three times, and the Canadian Women's Doubles title 15 times. Her last title came in doubles in May 2014 with Jennifer Saunders as her partner. Grand'Maître's 15 doubles titles are the most ever, and her 18 combined titles place her third on the all time list behind Saunders (20) and Mike Green (21). Canadian career Grand'Maître was Canadian Women's Singles Champion three times: in 1996, 1999, and 2001. Lori Jane Powell (November 8, 1971 – November 18, 2021) was a Canadian racquetball player from Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Powell was Pan American Champion twice (1 singles & 1 doubles title) and Canadian Champion five times (three singles & two doubles titles). She retired in 2007 due to a right knee injury. Professional career Powell was ranked in the top 10 rankings of the Women's Professional Racquetball Organization (WPRO) at the end of four seasons. Her career best finishes were two semi-finals. International career Powell won gold medals on two of her 18 international appearances with Team Canada. François Viens (born March 7, 1975) is a Canadian retired racquetball player from Delson, Quebec. Viens was a doubles specialist during his career usually playing on the right side. He won four Canadian Championships in doubles, three with Vincent Gagnon, with whom he also won the 2007 Pan American Championships and one with Corey Osborne. International career Viens made 5 appearances on Team Canada. His first appearance was at the 2003 Pan American Games, when he earned a bronze medal in doubles with Corey Osborne. Manitoba Sports Hall Of Fame
The Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is a Canadian museum in Winnipeg, Manitoba, dedicated to honoring the history and achievements of sports in Manitoba. The organization began in 1980, and then opened a museum in The Forks in 1993. After five years, the museum moved to The Bay store on Portage Avenue.
