Jennifer Russell (lacrosse)
Jennifer Anne Russell (born August 2, 1987 in Boston) is an American women’s lacrosse player. Having played with the North Carolina Tar Heels at the collegiate level, she was named to the US national team for the 2015-16 season. In 2016, she was selected by the Boston Storm with their second pick overall in the inaugural United Women's Lacrosse League Draft. Playing career NCAA Russell served as a three-time captain with the North Carolina Tar Heels, playing at the midfield position. She would graduate from the program with 119 points, scoring 93 goals. Her 38 goals in 2009 led all Tar Heels players, as she scored at least one goal in 19 of 21 games. Russell’s season-high was a four-goal effort against the Oregon Ducks. College Lacrosse
College lacrosse is played by student-athletes at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. In both countries, men's field lacrosse and women's lacrosse are played at both the varsity and club levels. Women's Lacrosse World Cup
The World Lacrosse Women's World Championship (WLWWC), formerly known as the Women's Lacrosse World Cup (WLWC), the international championship of women's lacrosse, is held every four years. From its inception in 1982, it was sponsored by the governing body for women's lacrosse, the International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations, until that body merged in 2008 with the former governing body for men's lacrosse. Since 2009, the WLWC has been sponsored by the sport's new unified governing body, the Federation of International Lacrosse. 2013 Women's Lacrosse World Cup
The 2013 Women's Lacrosse World Cup, the ninth World Cup played, is the pre-eminent international women's lacrosse tournament. The tournament was held at the Civic Recreation Complex in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada from July 10 through July 20, 2013. Sponsoring organizations The event was sponsored by the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The tournament was first held in 1982 and has been held quadrennially on odd years since 1989. Teams Nineteen teams, the most ever, competed in the 2013 World Cup tournament. The World Games
The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. 2017 World Games
The 2017 World Games ( pl, Igrzyska Światowe 2017), commonly known as Wrocław 2017 (german: Breslau 2017; sli, Brassel 2017), was the tenth World Games, a major international multi-sport event, meant for sports, or disciplines or events within a sport, that were not contested in the Olympic Games, held from 20 to 30 July 2017 in Wrocław, Poland. The World Games were organized by the Wrocław Organizing Committee. Wrocław was selected as the host city in January 2012 in Lausanne, over Budapest, Hungary. Lacrosse
Lacrosse is a team sport played with a lacrosse stick and a lacrosse ball. It is the oldest organized sport in North America, with its origins with the indigenous people of North America as early as the 12th century. The game was extensively modified by European colonists, reducing the violence, to create its current collegiate and professional form. Players use the head of the lacrosse stick to carry, pass, catch, and shoot the ball into the goal. The sport has four versions that have different sticks, fields, rules and equipment: field lacrosse, women's lacrosse, box lacrosse and intercrosse. The men's games, field lacrosse (outdoor) and box lacrosse (indoor), are contact sports and all players wear protective gear: helmet, gloves, shoulder pads, and elbow pads. The North Carolina Tar Heels are the intercollegiate athletic teams that represent the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The name Tar Heel is a nickname used to refer to individuals from the state of North Carolina, the ''Tar Heel State''. The Boston Storm are a United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) professional women's field lacrosse team based in Boston, Massachusetts. They have played in the UWLX since the 2016 season. In the 2017 season, the four teams in the UWLX played in a barnstorming format, with all four teams playing at a single venue. Franchise History The Boston Storm is one of the original four teams of the United Women's Lacrosse League (UWXL). UWLX was founded by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby in a strategic partnership with STX. On February 23, 2016, Bowen Holden was named as the first general manager in franchise history. On March 17, 2016, Amy Patton was announced as the Storm's first head coach. United Women's Lacrosse League
The United Women’s Lacrosse League (UWLX) was a women's lacrosse league in the United States. It was co-founded in Boston, Massachusetts, by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby of the Play It Forward Sports Foundation, under the ownership of United Women's Sports LLC in a strategic partnership with STX. Penn State women's lacrosse alum and former United States national team player Michele DeJuliis was appointed as the league’s first commissioner. DeJuliis left after the 2016 season to found the Women's Professional Lacrosse League (WPLL); Kristan Ash served as the second and final league commissioner. The league comprised four teams: the Baltimore Ride, Boston Storm, Long Island Sound and Philadelphia Force.
