David Jelly
David Finlay Jelly (September 28, 1847 – December 27, 1911) was an educator, farmer and political figure in the Northwest Territories, Canada. He represented Regina from 1885 to 1888 in the 1st Council of the Northwest Territories and North Regina from 1888 to 1894 in the Legislative Assembly of the Northwest Territories as an Independent member. He was born in North Dorchester Township, Middlesex County, Canada West, the son of William Jelly and his wife Mary (née Finlay). He was educated in Harrietsville, London and Toronto. In 1877, Jelly married Ida Findlay. He taught school for five years in Harrietsville and then served as managing director for the Belmont Flax Company. He came to the Northwest Territories, where he farmed and raised livestock, in 1882. It is unknown when he arrived in Brisbane, Queensland, but he was admitted to Dunwich Benevolent Asylum in September 1911. On December 27, 1911, he jumped from a jetty and drowned. Frank Nash (February 6, 1887 – June 17, 1933) was an American bank robber, and has been called "the most successful bank robber in U.S. history." He is most noted for his violent death in the Kansas City Massacre. Nash spent part of his childhood in Paragould, Arkansas (Greene County) and was arrested in Hot Springs, Arkansas (Garland County) the day before his death. Early life Frank "Jelly" Nash was born on February 6, 1887, in Birdseye, Indiana. His father, John "Pappy" Nash, started hotels in several southern towns, including Paragould and Jonesboro (Craighead County) Arkansas, and Hobart, Oklahoma. Olan "Jelly" Taylor (July 10, 1910 – October 1, 1976) was an American baseball first baseman in the Negro leagues. He played for the Cincinnati Tigers in 1934 and 1937 and the Memphis Red Sox from 1938 to 1942, and again in 1946. Taylor was selected to three East-West All-Star Games. He served in the United States Army during World War II. Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe (later Morton; c. September 20, 1890 – July 10, 1941), known professionally as Jelly Roll Morton, was an American ragtime and jazz pianist, bandleader, and composer. Morton was jazz's first arranger, proving that a genre rooted in improvisation could retain its essential characteristics when notated. His composition "Jelly Roll Blues", published in 1915, was one of the first published jazz compositions. He also claimed to have invented the genre. Morton also wrote "King Porter Stomp", "Wolverine Blues", "Black Bottom Stomp", and "I Thought I Heard Buddy Bolden Say", the last being a tribute to New Orleans musicians from the turn of the 20th century. Morton's claim to have invented jazz in 1902 was criticized.
