Jelena Silajdžić
Jelena Silajdžić is a film producer, art promoter and human rights activist from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosnia Herzegovina. She is the co-founder and executive director of Slovo 21, a non-governmental non-profit organization that focuses on the integration of Roma and immigrants in the Czech Republic. In 2000 she was awarded the Nansen Refugee Award in recognition of her work. Life Silajdžić studied journalism at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo, graduating in 1977. She first worked as a journalist for ''Oslobođenje'' newspaper, then became a film producer. After the breakup of Yugoslavia and just before the outbreak of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, she moved to Prague in 1992. Nansen Refugee Award
The Nansen Refugee Award is awarded annually by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to an individual, group, or organization in recognition of outstanding service to the cause of refugees, Internally displaced person, displaced, or statelessness, stateless people. The award was established in 1954 with Eleanor Roosevelt as the inaugural awardee. Breakup Of Yugoslavia
The breakup of Yugoslavia occurred as a result of a series of political upheavals and conflicts during the early 1990s. After a period of political and economic crisis in the 1980s, constituent republics of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia split apart, but the unresolved issues caused bitter inter-ethnic Yugoslav wars. The wars primarily affected Bosnia and Herzegovina, neighbouring parts of Croatia and, some years later, Kosovo. The World Roma Festival or Khamoro is an international Romani festival held annually in the city of Prague, Czech Republic. The International Romani Union ( rom, Romano Internacionalno Jekhetanipe), formerly known as the International Gypsy Committee and International Rom Committee, is an organization active for the rights of the Romani people.
