Jehiel Brooks
Colonel Jehiel Brooks (April 8, 1797 Albans, Vermont - February 6, 1886) was a soldier, territorial governor, and plantation owner. Life He was First Lieutenant, in the First Regiment of Infantry with the Ohio Militia, in the War of 1812. He came to the District of Columbia to secure political appointment, but with the exception of an appointment in the Red River Indian Agency in Louisiana during the administration of Andrew Jackson (1829-1837), Brooks had little luck. Instead, he assumed the role of the gentleman farmer on a tract of land adjacent to property that later became part of The Catholic University of America (CUA). One of the largest holders of real estate in the District, Nicholas Louis Queen ran the Queen's Hotel near the Capitol until his death in 1850. Yehiel Tzagai ( he, יחיאל צגאי, born 27 January 1983) is an Ethiopian-born Israeli footballer. Biography Tzagai was born in the Beta Israel community in Ethiopia and his family immigrated to Israel in 1991 during the Operation Solomon. Tzagai grew up through the ranks at Beitar Avraham Be'er Sheva but as the club has collapsed in 2002, he signed at another club in Beersheba - Hapoel Be'er Sheva where he was loaned until 2004 to F.C. Ashdod and Hakoah Ramat Gan. In 2004 Tzagai returned to Hapoel Be'er Sheva and played there for three seasons in the second league, where he was considered one of the most talented players in the whole league. Yechiel Shemi ( he, יחיאל שמי ) (1922-2003) was an Israeli sculptor. His environmental sculptures are displayed in open spaces around the country. Biography Yechiel Stizberg (later Shemi), was born to Moshe and Esther Stizberg. When he was two months old the family immigrated to Mandate Palestine and settled in Haifa. At the age of 14 he joined the Mahane Avoda youth movement and began to study art with Paul Henich. In 1938, he was one of the founders of Kibbutz Beit HaArava, located north of the Dead Sea. Alongside his agricultural work, Stizberg created landscape drawings and paintings, but then moved to sculpting. In 1942 he joined his friend Yitzhak Danziger's studio where he painted for 3 months. Yehiel Rabinowitz (born March 1939) is a Paris-based sculptor and painter. He has created a number of mural paintings and ceramic tile murals in public and private spaces throughout France, Spain, and Belgium. He is also responsible for creating sculptures out of sheets of aluminum and stainless steel in public and private spaces in France and Canada, such as “Les Otimistes” in Fougères, France. Rabinowitz began practicing art as a profession in the 1960s and rose to prominence through the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. Dr Yechiel (Michael) Leiter ( he, יחיאל לייטר) is an Israeli historian of philosophy, and also a public policy analyst. Leiter is a resident scholar at Jerusalem's Herzl Institute. He has previously served as Chief of Staff to Benjamin Netanyahu at Israel's Ministry of Finance and as political assistant to Ariel Sharon in Israel's parliament. Yechiel Michel ha-Levi Epstein ( he, יחיאל מיכל הלוי אפשטיין) (24 January 1829 – 25 March 1908), often called "the ''Aruch haShulchan''" after his magnum opus, Aruch HaShulchan, was a Rabbi and ''Posek'' (authority in Jewish law) in Lithuania.
