The city of Jeffersonville is the largest city and county seat of Twiggs County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,035 at the 2010 census, down from 1,209 in 2000. Jeffersonville is part of the Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The city was named after the Jefferson family of settlers. Jeffersonville was named county seat in 1868, when the seat was transferred from Marion. Geography Jeffersonville is located at (32.683982, -83.339683). The city is located in the central part of the state, very close to the geographic center of the state. Interstate 16 runs northwest to southeast just south of the city, leading southeast 148 mi (238 km) to Savannah and northwest 25 mi (40 km) to Macon. Jeffersonville is a village in Wayne County, Illinois, United States. The population was 366 at the 2000 census. Although its official name is Jeffersonville, the village is known locally as Geff, with that spelling appearing on local road signs, the US Post office, and many official documents. "Geff" is pronounced as though it were spelled "Jeff". The name change is said to have been made during the 19th century by the railroad, in order to distinguish the village in Illinois from Jeffersonville, Indiana. History Burton Hawk and his brother ran a sawmill near Geff and Fairfield. William Edwin Hawk was married to Alice Mathews, also of Fairfield. His sister, Mary Adeline, was married to Dr. Dade A. Hilliard. Mellie Ann Gray was the daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Gray. She married Burton Hawk on October 31, 1894. Jeffersonville is a home rule-class city in Montgomery County, Kentucky, in the United States. The population was 1,506 at the 2010 U.S. census. It is part of the Mount Sterling micropolitan area. History Jeffersonville began as an important cattle-trading center in Eastern Kentucky during the mid-19th century. It was then known as Ticktown, either for the tickgrass (''Eragrostis echinochloidea'') in the area or for the ticks in the cattle pens. Although it is unknown when the settlement became known as Jeffersonville, the first post office was established under that name on March 9, 1866. It presumably honors Pres. Thomas Jefferson. Jeffersonville is a village in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 368 at the 2020 census. The name is derived indirectly from Thomas Jefferson. The Village of Jeffersonville is in the southeastern section of the Town of Callicoon on NY 52. The postal code is 12748. The Village of Jeffersonville is home to the Sullivan West Central School elementary school. History The original settlers arrived and called the village Winkelried. The first hotel in the village was The Jefferson House, named after President Jefferson, and the village was subsequently renamed to Jeffersonville.
