Jefferson D. Hughes III (born January 9, 1952) is an American lawyer who has served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of Louisiana since 2013. Early life and education Hughes graduated Denham Springs High School in 1970. He received a bachelor's degree in history and Juris Doctor The Juris Doctor (J.D. or JD), also known as Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D., JD, D.Jur., or DJur), is a graduate-entry professional degree in law and one of several Doctor of Law degrees. The J.D. is the standard degree obtained to practice law ... from Louisiana State University. He was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in October 1978.
