Jefferson County Schools (Alabama)
The Jefferson County School System is the second-largest public school system in Alabama, United States. It is the third oldest school system in Jefferson County preceded only by the Birmingham and Bessemer School Systems. The Jefferson County School System was created in 1896, and initially served all unincorporated communities and cities in the county other than Birmingham and Bessemer. Beginning in the late 1960s and early 1970s various other cities began to establish their own separate systems (i.e., Homewood, Midfield, Vestavia Hills, Hoover, etc.). Today the County system serves students in those unincorporated areas of Jefferson County, Alabama such as Alliance, Bagley, Concord, Corner, Forestdale, McCalla, Minor, Mt. Olive, and Oak Grove. Trussville is a city in Jefferson and St. Clair counties in the State of Alabama. It is a suburb of Birmingham and part of the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Tarrant City School District is the school system of the Birmingham, Alabama, suburb of Tarrant. Tarrant City Schools serve 1,093 students and employ 146 faculty and staff. The district includes one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. History Tarrant's first school was built in 1920, and by 1930, its enrollment had grown to 1,443 students. The 1930 U.S. Census showed sufficient population, in compliance with the state code, for the city of Tarrant to operate its own schools independently from the Jefferson County School System. Mountain Brook School System
The Mountain Brook School System serves the city of Mountain Brook, a area outside of Birmingham, Alabama, United States. The school system supports a city with approximately 20,600 residents. The system was established in 1959 in order to avoid federal desegregation. The school system is one of the most segregated school districts in America. Educators and students have recently tried to implement diversity programming following anti-Semitic events working with the Anti-Defamation League, but the School Board cut ties with the Anti-Defamation League after hearing parent opposition. Mountain Brook is a city in southeastern Jefferson County, Alabama, United States, and a suburb of Birmingham. Its population at the 2010 census was 20,413. The Midfield City School District is the school system of the Birmingham, Alabama, suburb of Midfield. Midfield City Schools serve 1,159 students and employ 146 faculty and staff. The district includes one elementary school, one middle school, and one high school. History Midfield schools were part of the Jefferson County School System until 1970, when the citizens of Midfield voted to organize their own school system.
