Jeff Sipe Trio
''Jeff Sipe Trio'' is the debut album by the group of the same name, led by drummer Jeff Sipe. It was recorded in August and September, 2013, at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, and was released in 2014 by Abstract Logix. On the album, Sipe is joined by guitarist Mike Seal and bassist Taylor Lee. Concerning the contents of the album, Sipe commented: "The song choices that were made for this record all stressed the importance of having strong melodies... in both the compositions and the way we improvised. This material is strong enough to stand on its own – these are songs, first and foremost." Reception In a review for ''All About Jazz'', Mark Sullivan wrote: "While always technically impressive, these tracks all sound like songs... A strong debut recording from a group that sounds as if they have been playing together much longer than they have. Their eclectic, contemporary fusion approach fits right in with the rest of the Abstract Logix roster." Dean Bud ...

Rock Music
Rock music is a broad genre of popular music that originated as " rock and roll" in the United States in the late 1940s and early 1950s, developing into a range of different styles in the mid-1960s and later, particularly in the United States and United Kingdom.W. E. Studwell and D. F. Lonergan, ''The Classic Rock and Roll Reader: Rock Music from its Beginnings to the mid-1970s'' (Abingdon: Routledge, 1999), p.xi It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, a style that drew directly from the blues and rhythm and blues genres of African-American music and from country music. Rock also drew strongly from a number of other genres such as electric blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical, and other musical styles. For instrumentation, rock has centered on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar, drums, and one or more singers. Usually, rock is song-based music with a time signature using a verse–chorus form, ...

Temporal Analogues Of Paradise
''Temporal Analogues of Paradise'' is an album by bassist Jonas Hellborg, with guitarist Shawn Lane and drummer Jeff Sipe, released in 1996 through Day Eight Music; a remastered edition was reissued through Bardo Records in 2004. It was recorded live at different locations in Sweden, France and Germany during the trio's extensive touring in 1995 and 1996. Totally improvised, though still achieving a distinct musical dynamic and structure, the album marks a "headsplittingly magnificent" (Mac Randall, Musician Magazine) reference peak in rock/fusion history, not only through astounding technical virtuosity, but especially through an exploring, emotional flow of ideas that the artists are able to communicate, individually and as a group. As acknowledged by the musicians themselves "Temporal Analogues of Paradise" is probably the most representative recording of the group. Track listing Personnel *Jonas Hellborg – bass, mixing, production *Shawn Lane – vocals, guitar *Jeff ...

Bloom (Jeff Coffin Album)
''Bloom'' was the fourth album released by Jeff Coffin, and was issued in 2005. This album was the second album recorded and released with the Mu'tet, a constantly changing group of guest musicians that play with Coffin. Reception In a review for AllMusic, Jonathan Widran wrote: "All over the place? Sure. Self-indulgent? Maybe. But take away a track or two and the open-minded listener has probably never had this much crazy fun on one collection. So get over it." Matt Merewitz of All About Jazz stated: "With ''Bloom'' Coffin and the Mu'tet successfully take the listener on a sonic journey through such an abundance of styles, colors, and textures that any attempt to box Coffin or the Mu'tet into one singular style would be an exercise in futility. Check out this record. You'll be glad you did." Writing for Jambands.com, Karl Kukta noted that, with the album, "Coffin has decided to pretty much stick with the recipe," and drew comparisons with the music of Béla Fleck and the Fleck ...

On the album, core Project Z members Jimmy Herring (guitar), Ricky Keller (bass), and Jeff Sipe (drums) are joined by guest artists Greg Osby (saxophone) and Jason Crosby (keyboards). The album is dedicated to Ricky Keller, who died in June 2003, and who had been given the nickname "Lincoln Metcalf" by Col. Bruce Hampton. Reception In a review for All About Jazz, David Miller wrote: "this is no jamband record. At its core is jazz; the communication between the musicians is astonishing at times... This is the album that Herring has always had the potential to make, combining all of his diverse influences into a cohesive musical statement." A review for Leeway's Homegrown Music Network called the album "a milestone among recorded sessions of free improvisation," and stated: "what sets ''Lincoln Memorial'' apar ...

Project Z (band)
Project Z was an American indie rock, jazz fusion, and jam band of the early 21st century. Project Z was founded by leader Jimmy Herring (guitar), Rickey Keller (bass), and Jeff Sipe (drums), as an offshoot of Sipe's Atlanta band Apartment Project, which often included Keller and which Herring sat in with on occasion. The "Z" in the band name stands for "Zambi", Bruce Hampton's name for his personal and musical philosophy. Herring had played in Hampton's Aquarium Rescue Unit, and Keller had also played with Hampton. According to Herring, the band's goal in live performances was to "totally improvise for real", sometimes detuning their instruments to prevent the band members from falling back on their existing musical vocabulary. According to Dean Budnick, "The result may not be everyone's cup of Z, but in the live setting, it is often a stunning, sublime experience". Project Z (album)
''Project Z'' is the debut album by the band of the same name. It was recorded at Southern Living At Its Finest in Atlanta, Georgia, and was released in 2001 by Terminus Records. On the album, core Project Z members Jimmy Herring (guitar), Ricky Keller (bass), and Jeff Sipe (drums) are joined by guest artists Rev. Oliver Wells (keyboards), Derek Trucks (slide guitar), Count M'Butu (congas), and Col. Bruce Hampton ("Z Phone"). According to AllMusic's Ann Wickstrom, the recording documented a session in which "top-drawer musicians who favor improvisation are given no boundaries, rules, restraints, pressures, or expectations... Terminus told the artists they could record anything they wanted to and it would be released." Herring recalled that the project was "about the lack of songs," with the goal being "to see how far we could get without songs. Just pure improvisation." Reception In a review for AllMusic, Ann Wickstrom wrote: "The intrinsic communication between the three musici ...

''Laughing Water'' is a live album by the instrumental Grateful Dead cover band Jazz Is Dead. Subtitled ''Wake of the Flood Revisited'', it is a reinterpretation of the Grateful Dead's 1973 album. It was JID's second release, and was recorded in April 1999 at the Fox Theater in Boulder, Colorado, and Maritime Hall, in San Francisco, California, and issued later that year by Zebra Records. In A Perfect World (Aquarium Rescue Unit Album)
''In a Perfect World'' is a 1994 studio album by the Aquarium Rescue Unit. It was the band's first studio album, following two live releases, and their first record following the departure of former frontman Bruce Hampton. Reception In a review for AllMusic, JT Griffith wrote: "The album is packed with some great jams and beautiful sounds," but noted that although it "probably translated well live," "on record the band falls flat." John Swenson, editor of The Rolling Stone Jazz & Blues Album Guide, awarded the album 4 stars, calling it "a burnished fusion effort featuring magnificent performances from Herring and Oteil Burbridge." Writer Dean Budnick commented: "The level of musicianship is quite high on this disc... Burbridge is... creative and compelling... Herring distinguishes himself on a number of tunes." No Treble's Ryan Madora praised Burbridge's playing on "The Garden," stating that he "exhibits impeccable technique," and "uses clever interval leaps and chords during th ...

Mirrors Of Embarrassment
''Mirrors of Embarrassment'' is an album by the American band Col. Bruce Hampton and the Aquarium Rescue Unit. It is dedicated to Wayne Bennett. The band supported the album by touring with the 1993 H.O.R.D.E. festival. Bruce Hampton left the band later the same year. Production The album was produced by Johnny Sandlin, who called the band the best that he had heard. Hampton played his "chazoid", an instrument that resembled a combination of guitar and mandolin. He spent a month writing the songs for the album, after the band had finished touring behind their debut. Béla Fleck and John Popper also contributed to the album. "Trondossa" is built around the sound of a Hammond B-3. Critical reception ''Stereo Review'' stated: "Just imagine it—a six-string-bass jazz/funk virtuoso, a mandolin phenom with avant-garde leanings, a guitarist who'd have been a Southern-rock hotshot in another context, and a four-armed drummer (or so it seems), all coming together in a sound that comb ...

Cosmic Farm
''Cosmic Farm'' is an album by bassist Rob Wasserman, guitarist Craig Erickson, keyboardist T Lavitz, and drummer Jeff Sipe. It was recorded in California, and was released in 2005 by Tone Center Records. Bassoonist Paul Hanson also appears on four tracks. In the album liner notes, Erickson wrote: "we only spent a minimal amount of time to rehearse and record, going for a 'raw play like you feel in the moment' vibe... like the days when there were no stylistic boundary rules, just the freedom to be yourself and have a little fun jamming." Reception In a review for AllMusic, Hal Horowitz called the recording "a solid, incredibly well played album," and wrote: "Although released in 2005, it's a knowing throwback to the jazz-rock fusion of '70s acts such as Jeff Beck, John Scofield, Return to Forever, Allan Holdsworth, Dixie Dregs... and any number of similar acts that generally favored instrumental dexterity over the compositional and melodic... There is something rather charming i ...
