Jeff Pierce (cyclist)
Jeff Pierce (born August 28, 1958) is a retired American professional road bicycle racer. At the 1987 Tour de France, Pierce gained fame by becoming the third American (after Davis Phinney and Greg LeMond) to win a stage in the Tour de France, winning the final stage on the Champs-Élysées from the breakaway while riding for Team 7-Eleven. In 1991, Jeff Pierce appeared in a video with Olympic cyclist John Howard, entitled ''John Howard's Lessons in Cycling''. After his retirement from competitive cycling, Pierce served as USA Cycling's Vice President of Athletics. He was inducted into the United States Bicycling Hall of Fame in 2020. 7-Eleven (cycling Team)
The 7-Eleven Cycling Team, later the Motorola Cycling Team, was a professional cycling team founded in the U.S. in 1981 by Jim Ochowicz, a former U.S. Olympic cyclist. The team lasted 16 years, under the sponsorship of 7-Eleven through 1990 and then Motorola from 1990 through 1996. From 1989 to 1996 it rode on Eddy Merckx bikes. History 7-Eleven was formed as an amateur cycling team in 1981 by Ochowicz, a 29-year-old former Olympic cyclist from the U.S., who was married to Olympic speed skating gold medalist Sheila Young. Ochowicz had managed the U.S. national speed-skating team and was friends with Eric and Beth Heiden, who were both excellent cyclists as well as champion speed skaters. He managed to get sponsorship from the Southland Corporation, owners of the 7-Eleven convenience-store chain, and bicycle manufacturer Schwinn to form an amateur team. United States Bicycling Hall Of Fame
The United States Bicycling Hall of Fame, located in Davis, California, is a private 501c3 non-profit organization formed to preserve and promote the sport of cycling. The organization was founded in 1986 in Somerville, New Jersey and has inducted cyclists who have "achieved tremendous success in racing or have enhanced the sport" since 1987. It has operated a museum in Davis since 2009. Museum The Hall of Fame is located at 303 3rd Street, Davis, California. It is on the top floor of the building and includes the bicycles of Major Taylor and Frank Louis Kramer as well as a championship sash and medals from Frank Kramer. The main floor of the museum includes topical exhibits. In 2010, there was an exhibit about the Tour of California and a display about Greg LeMond. The Coors International Bicycle Classic (1980–1988) was a stage race sponsored by the Coors Brewing Company. Coors was the race's second sponsor; the first, Celestial Seasonings, named the race after its premium tea Red Zinger, which began in 1975. Over the years, the event became America's national tour, listed as the fourth largest race in the world after the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, and Vuelta a España. The race grew from 3 days of racing in its first years as the Red Zinger Bicycle Classic to 2 weeks in the later Coors Classic years. The Nevada City Classic (previously: Tour of Nevada City; Father's Day Bicycle Classic), one of the most historic and challenging professional cycling races in the US, is held in Nevada City, California. USA Cycling or USAC, based in Colorado Springs, Colorado, is the national governing body for bicycle racing in the United States.
