Jeff Liu is an American writer, screenwriter, theater director, composer, and film director. His theatrical productions include the world premieres of: ''Texas'', ''Solve for X'' by Judy Soo Hoo, ''Murderabilia'', ''Terminus Americana'' (Ovation Award nominee for Best World Premiere) by Matt Pelfrey, ''The Golden Hour'', ''Grace Kim and the Spiders from Mars'' by Philip W. Chung, ''The Chinese Massacre'' (ANNOTATED) by Tom Jacobson, and ''Ixnay'', ''Wrinkles and Slice'' by Paul Kikuchi. Liu wrote and directed a two-part film entitled ''Yellow Face'', based on the David Henry Hwang play of the same name, which is considered a hybrid of the stage drama, a YouTube sketch, and a short film. It premiered at the 2013 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival. David Henry Hwang (born August 11, 1957) is an American playwright, librettist, screenwriter, and theater professor at Columbia University in New York City. The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) – formerly known as VC FilmFest – is an annual film festival presented by Visual Communications (VC). Eric Byler (born January 15, 1972) is an American film director, screenwriter and political activist. Personal life Byler identifies as hapa biracial, born to a Chinese American mother and a white American father. He grew up in Virginia, Hawaii (where he attended Moanalua High School), and California. He graduated from Wesleyan University in 1994, majoring in film. He currently lives in Australia. Filmmaker Byler's senior thesis film, ''Kenji's Faith'', premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 1995, went on to win six film festival awards, and was a regional finalist in the Student Academy Awards. The Independent Spirit Awards (abbreviated Spirit Awards and originally known as the FINDIE or Friends of Independents Awards), founded in 1984, are awards dedicated to independent filmmakers. Winners were typically presented with Poly(methyl methacrylate), acrylic glass pyramids containing suspended shoestrings representing the bare budgets of independent films.
