Jeel Albena Association for Humanitarian Development, also known as Jeel Albena, is a Yemeni not for profit organisation, founded by Ameen Jubran in 2017. It won the Nansen Refugee Award in 2021. Nomenclature ''Jeel'' is Arabic for ''generation'' and ''Albena'' is Arabic for ''building''. Organisational history Jeel Albena was founded by chemist Ameen Jubran (born 1984) in June 2017. The organisation has the motto “By Yemenis, for Yemenis.” In September 2021, Jeel Albena had over 150 employees. Jeel Albena won the Nansen Refugee Award in 2021. Al Hudaydah
Al-Hudaydah ( ar, الْحُدَيْدَة, al-ḥudayda), also transliterated as Hodeda, Hodeida, Hudaida or Hodeidah, is the fourth-largest city in Yemen and its principal port on the Red Sea. As of 2004, its population was 402,560 and it is the centre of the Al Hudaydah Governorate. History In the Islamic chronicles, the name Al-Hudaydah was first mentioned in the year 1454/55 and the city became a popular and important one in the 1520s when the Ottomans took over Yemeni Tihāmah. Ameen Jubran
Ameen Hussain Jubran (born 1984) is a Yemeni chemist and the founder of Jeel Albena Association for Humanitarian Development. In 2021, he accepted a Nansen Refugee Award on behalf of the organisation. Early life and education Jubran was born in Saada, Yemen in 1984 and studied chemistry at Sa'ada University. The Nansen Refugee Award is awarded annually by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to an individual, group, or organization in recognition of outstanding service to the cause of refugees, Internally displaced person, displaced, or statelessness, stateless people. Hajjah
Hajjah ( ar, حَجَّة, Ḥajjah) is the capital city of Hajjah Governorate in north-western Yemen. It is located 127 kilometres northwest of Sana'a, at an elevation of about 1800 metres. Al Mahwit
Al Mahwit ( ar, المحويت ''Al-Maḥwīt'') is the capital city of Al Mahwit Governorate, Yemen. It is located at an elevation of about 2000 metres. History Al-Mahwit's development is fairly recent compared to some other Yemeni settlements. Its first known historical mention is in 1599 (1007 AH), in the '' Ghayat al-amani'' of Yahya ibn al-Husayn. The old town of Al-Mahwit is situated around a mountain fortress.
