Jean De Bournonville
Jean de Bournonville was a French composer active in the first third of the 17th century, born in Noyon around 1585 and died in Paris on 27 May 1632. He should not be confused with his son Valentin de Bournonville, who published masses in the middle of the 17th century. Biography Noyon The 1612 ''Octo Cantica'' state that he was born in Noyon, but his year of birth is unknown. Saint-Quentin The same collection indicates him at that time as master of the children of the collegiate church of Saint-Quentin, Aisne, Saint-Quentin. In 1613 Bournonville offered to the chapter of the Cambrai Cathedral a bound collection of his masses (probably the Parisian editions of Pierre I Ballard). He remained in Saint-Quentin until about 1618. In the 1610s, he won first prizes at the puys de musique of Rouen, Évreux and Abbeville. Artus Aux-Cousteaux
Artus Aux-Cousteaux (''Hautcousteaux'', ''Haultcousteau'', ''Arthur d'Auxcousteaux''; c. 1590-1656) was a French singer and composer, active in Picardy and Paris. He was born in Picardy in either Beauvais (according to Charles Magnin) or Saint-Quentin (according to Charles Gomart). His family coat of arms contains a pun on his name; it is ''Azur à trois cousteaux, d'argent garnis d'or'' ("Azure on three sides, of silver decorated with gold"). He was a singer in the church of Noyon, of which fact there is a record in the library of Amiens. Then he became ''Maistre de la Sainte Chapelle'' at Paris. According to the preface to Antoine Godeau's 1656 psalter published by , he was a haute-contre in the chapel of Louis XIII. He left many masses and chansons, all printed by of Paris. Polyphony ( ) is a type of musical texture consisting of two or more simultaneous lines of independent melody, as opposed to a musical texture with just one voice, monophony, or a texture with one dominant melodic voice accompanied by chords, homophony. Within the context of the Western musical tradition, the term ''polyphony'' is usually used to refer to music of the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. Baroque forms such as fugue, which might be called polyphonic, are usually described instead as contrapuntal. Marie Bobillier, real name Antoinette Christine Marie Bobillier (12 April 1858 – 4 November 1918) was a French musicologist, music critic, writing under her pseudonym Michel Brenet. Biography Born in Lunéville of a military father, captain and then colonel in the artillery, Marie Bobillier, a single daughter, lived her childhood in several cities, including Strasbourg and Metz, before finally settling in Paris in 1871. She learned to play the piano, but a scarlet fever contracted at the age of thirteen rendered her disabled, influencing her decision to devote her life to research, after having been to the Pasdeloup concerts. She was one of the first French women musicologists. Guy Du Faur, Seigneur De Pibrac
Guy Du Faur, Seigneur de Pibrac (1529–1584) was a French jurist and poet. Life He was born at Toulouse to an old family of the magistracy. He studied law there with Jacques Cujas, and afterwards at Padua. In 1548 he was admitted to the bar at Toulouse, at once took high rank, and rose to be ''juge-mage'', an office in Languedocian cities about equal to that of ''privat''. He was selected in 1562 as one of the three representatives of the king of France at the Council of Trent. In 1565 he became general advocate to the parlement of Paris, and extended the renaissance in jurisprudence which was transforming French justice. The Schola Cantorum de Paris is a private conservatory in Paris. It was founded in 1894 by Charles Bordes, Alexandre Guilmant and Vincent d'Indy as a counterbalance to the Paris Conservatoire's emphasis on opera. Clément Janequin
Clément Janequin (c. 1485 – 1558) was a French composer of the Renaissance. He was one of the most famous composers of popular chansons of the entire Renaissance, and along with Claudin de Sermisy, was hugely influential in the development of the Parisian chanson, especially the programmatic type. The wide spread of his fame was made possible by the concurrent development of music printing. Life Janequin was born in Châtellerault, near Poitiers, though no documents survive which establish any details of his early life or training. His career was highly unusual for his time, in that he never had a regular position with a cathedral or an aristocratic court. Life Bogard was born in Leuven around the mid-16th century and from 1564 was working as a printer in the city. E.-H.-J. In music, counterpoint is the relationship between two or more musical lines (or voices) which are harmonically interdependent yet independent in rhythm and melodic contour. It has been most commonly identified in the European classical tradition, strongly developing during the Renaissance and in much of the common practice period, especially in the Baroque period. The term originates from the Latin ''punctus contra punctum'' meaning "point against point", i.e. "note against note".
