Jean Petit (printer)
Jean or Jehan Petit, in Latin ''Johannes Parvus'', was a printer, publisher and bookseller in Paris. From 1493 to 1530 he printed about one tenth of all publications in Paris, more than ten thousand volumes. Petit was one of the four major booksellers at the University of Paris and greatly contributed to the spread of early Renaissance Humanism in Paris. He published a large number of original editions. __NOTOC__ Jodocus Badius (french: Josse Bade; es, Jodoco del Badia; 1462–1535), also known as , , and , was a pioneer of the printing industry, a renowned grammarian, and a pedagogue. Life Josse Badius was born in the village of Asse (formerly Assche) near Brussels in Flemish Brabant in AD 1462. He was a scholar of considerable repute, studying in Brussels and Ferrara and teaching Greek for several years at Lyons, France. During the years 1492–1498, while in Lyon, he began working as a proofreader and editor for the printer Jean Trechsel. He moved to Paris, where he established his own printing house in the year 1503, which eventually took the name '. With 775 editions, it served as one of the most active publishers during the first three decades of the 16th century. Filippo Beroaldo, sometimes called "the Elder" to distinguish him from his cousin Filippo Beroaldo the Younger, and also known as Philip or Philippus Beroaldus (7 November 1453 – 17 July 1505) was an Italian humanist active as a professor at the University of Bologna. Life Born in Bologna in a local noble family, Filippo Beroaldo studied with Francesco Puteolano, who worked at the University of Bologna as a professor of rhetoric and poetry, and was active as editor of early printed editions of Ovid, Catullus and Tacitus. On the return of Puteolano to Milan, Berolado was made the new professor of rhetoric and poetry in 1472, despite being only 19 years old. In 1475, he left Bologna and travelled to Parma and Paris, where he befriended Robert Gaguin, but by 1479 he was back in Bologna, where he would remain as professor until he died in 1505.
