Jean-Marie Morel
Jean-Marie Morel (28 March 1728 – 10 August 1810), the author of ''La Théorie des Jardins'' (Paris 1776), was a trained architect and surveyor, who produced a substantial and popular work advocating the "natural" landscape style of gardening in France, a French landscape garden. Morel never visited England to see the English garden style, but his book profited from the published theories of Thomas Whately and Claude-Henri Watelet and from the experience he had gained from his close association with the marquis de Girardin at Ermenonville. Girondin's own ''De la Composition des paysages'' appeared in 1777. History Morel was chief architect to the Princes of Conti from as early as 1765. Jean-Valentin Morel
Jean-Valentin Morel (1794 in Paris-1860) was a French gold and silversmith noted for the quality of his work. He was trained under Adrien-Maximilian, whom was the maker of gold boxes to Louis XVI and Napoleon Family Jean-Valentin Morel was born in Paris. He was the son of lapidary Valentin Morel, and his mother's family (the Mauzié) were silversmiths. Morel had a son Prosper whose daughter married Joseph Chaumet, who inherited the family jewelry business in 1885. It now bears his name. Biography Early career Jean-Valentin Morel learned the lapidary craft from his father and apprenticed with goldsmith Adrien Vachette who worked in the production of gold boxes to Napoleon. In 1818, he launched his own business, and registered his mark on 2 August 1827. Jean-Valentin Morel specialized in high-quality inlay and in the production of hard stone cups in a revival of 16th-century style. Jean-Baptiste Morel (10 October 1854 – 7 February 1927) was a French politician who was twice Minister of the Colonies in the period immediately before World War I (1914–18). During the war he led an influential committee on economic warfare. Early years Jean-Baptiste Morel was born on 10 October 1854 in Nandax, Loire. He attended the Ecole supérieure de pharmacie de Paris (Pharmacy School of Paris) where he won various prizes and medals. He was elected local councilor on 28 July 1889, then Mayor of Charlieu in May 1896. He became a councilor-general of the Loire department on 9 December 1894, and later became president of the council. National politics On 8 May 1898 Morel ran for election as deputy for the Roanne constituency, and won in the first round. He was reelected in the second round of the April–May 1902 elections.
