Jean Lucas (racing Driver)
Jean Lucas (25 April 1917 – 27 September 2003) was a French racing driver. He participated in one Formula One World Championship Grand Prix, on 11 September 1955. Lucas was then manager of the Gordini team, and when regular driver Robert Manzon was unable to race, he stepped in to take his place. His retired his car with engine failure and scored no championship points. Lucas' best results as a driver were in sports car racing at the wheel of a Ferrari, winning at Spa-Francorchamps and Montlhéry in 1949. He retired in 1957 after a crash at the Moroccan Grand Prix. Lucas was one of the founders of the French motorsport magazine ''Sport auto''. Le Mans (, ) is a city in northwestern France on the Sarthe River where it meets the Huisne. Traditionally the capital of the province of Maine, it is now the capital of the Sarthe department and the seat of the Roman Catholic diocese of Le Mans. Gordini Type 32
The Gordini T32 was an open-wheel formula racing car, designed, developed and built by French manufacturer Gordini, for the and Formula One World Championship seasons. Background In 1955 Gordini presented a completely new Formula 1 racing car. The T32 was unveiled at the Montlhéry circuit. While Gordini had retained the ladder-type frame construction, the T32 had independent wheel suspension and disc brakes. The eight-cylinder in-line engine had a displacement of 2.5 liters and delivered 250 hp. However, the car was too heavy and the two copies built were inferior to the competition. Another problem was the cooling of the internal rear brakes. This was remedied by air slots in the body. French Formula One Drivers
There have been 74 Formula One drivers from France, the most successful of them being Alain Prost who won the World Drivers' Championship four times. World champions and race winners The title has been won by a French driver on four occasions, all of which were victories for Alain Prost. Thirteen other drivers have won at least one race, though they are all far behind Prost's tally of 51 wins. *Alain Prost debuted with McLaren in 1980. He finished in the points on four occasions but only finished 16th overall, moving to Renault for the following season. The 1955 British Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Aintree Motor Racing Circuit, Aintree on 16 July 1955. It was race 6 of 7 in the 1955 World Championship of Drivers. British driver Stirling Moss led a Mercedes 1–2–3–4 domination of the race, to win his first Formula One race narrowly ahead of his illustrious Argentine teammate Juan Manuel Fangio. Several people, including Moss, believed that the Argentine allowed his British protégé to claim his debut win in front of his home crowd. This was, however, at Moss' inquiry, consistently denied by Fangio, who claimed that Moss "was simply faster that day." The 1955 Dutch Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Zandvoort on June 19, 1955. It was race 5 of 7 in the 1955 World Championship of Drivers. The 100-lap race was won by Mercedes driver Juan Manuel Fangio after he started from pole position. His teammate Stirling Moss finished second and Maserati driver Luigi Musso came in third. The 1955 Belgian Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race held at Spa-Francorchamps on June 5, 1955. It was race 4 of 7 in the 1955 World Championship of Drivers. The 36-lap race was won by Mercedes driver Juan Manuel Fangio after he started from second position. His teammate Stirling Moss finished second and Ferrari driver Nino Farina came in third. Race report Harry Schell set a grid time but his car was driven by teammate Maurice Trintignant. This was the easiest of wins for Mercedes. With the absence of Lancia, there was very little competition. Fangio disappeared into the distance with Moss tracking him round.
