Jean-Philippe Jaworski
Jean-Philippe Jaworski (born 1969) is a French author of fantasy literature and role-playing games. Life Born in 1969, Jaworski is a teacher of French literature at a ''lycée'' in Nancy. In 1983, having become interested in role-playing games, he wrote two amateur pen and paper role-playing games: ''Tiers âge'', based on the Third Age of J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, and '' Te deum pour un massacre'', a period adventure taking place in 16th century France during the Wars of Religion. ''Te deum pour un massacre'' was eventually published in 2005. Jaworski published his first work of fiction, '' Janua Vera'', in 2007, and was awarded that year's '' Prix du Cafard cosmique'' for it. This collection of novellas is set in a fantasy world, ''Le Vieux Royaume'', characterized by a low degree of supernatural activity and inspired by swashbuckler novels and historical fiction. ''Casus Belli'' is a French magazine about role-playing games, published in different formats since 1980. It contains news, reviews, interviews, features, and role-playing game materials. The magazine was published by Excelsior Publications until 1999, by Arkana Press in 2000–2006, and by Casus Belli Presse in 2010–2011, and has been published by Black Book Éditions since 2011. Since 2020, it also has the online video companion ''Casus TV'', which is produced in collaboration with ''Tric Trac''. History ''Casus Belli'' has been released in different forms since 1980, originally under editor-in-chief François Marcela-Froideval and published by Excelsior Publications; for its first few issues, it was a short, black-and-white publication, before changing to a larger format printed in color. Prix Imaginales
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous of Banjo playing. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences. A swashbuckler is a genre of European adventure literature that focuses on a heroic protagonist stock character who is skilled in swordsmanship, acrobatics, guile and possesses chivalrous ideals. A "swashbuckler" protagonist is heroic, daring, and idealistic: he rescues damsels in distress, protects the downtrodden, and uses duels to defend his honor or that of a lady or to avenge a comrade. Swashbucklers often engage in daring and romantic adventures with bravado or flamboyance.
