Jean-Marc Garcia
Jean-Marc Garcia is a French rugby league footballer who represented France in the 1995 and 2000 World Cups. Playing career Garcia played for AS Saint Estève in the French Rugby League Championship. He was first selected for France in 1991 and spent the rest of the decade as part of the side, playing in forty test matches. In 1995 Garcia transferred to the Sheffield Eagles. At the end of the year he was named as part of France's World Cup side. Garcia remained with Sheffield for three seasons, leaving at the end of 1997 to rejoin AS Saint Estève As, AS, A. The French rugby league championship (french: Le Championnat de France de Rugby à XIII) has been the major rugby league tournament for semi-professional and professional clubs in France since the sport was introduced to the country in the 1930s. Except for the first season, a play-off structure leading to a championship final has always been used to determine the fate of the championship. Because the French rugby league championship has several divisions where the teams will change each year depending on final standings and relegation/promotion there have been many teams in the French rugby league championship since its inception. Sheffield Eagles (1984)
The Sheffield Eagles are a professional rugby league club that play in the Betfred Championship. The club play their home games at the Olympic Legacy Park (OLP) on the former site of Don Valley Stadium, their former ground. The original club was formed in 1984 and formerly competed in the Super League. The new, current club was formed in 2000 following a merger of the old club with Huddersfield Giants. The old club's biggest achievement was winning the Challenge Cup in 1998. Sheffield were the inaugural winners of the 1895 Cup, after they beat Widnes at Wembley Stadium on 24 August 2019. 1995 Rugby League World Cup
The 1995 Rugby League World Cup was held during October in the United Kingdom. It was the eleventh staging of the Rugby League World Cup and was marketed as the Halifax Centenary World Cup, reflecting the tournament's sponsorship and the fact that 1995 marked the centenary of the sport. Envisaged as a celebration of rugby league football, the size of the competition was doubled, with four additional teams invited and Great Britain split into England and Wales ( Scotland and Ireland took part in the Emerging Nations Tournament that was held alongside the World Cup.) The tournament had been preceded by doubts and pessimism; many feared that it would produce one-sided-matches that would be unattractive to supporters.
