''Jazzen'' is a studio album by Swedish musicians Nina Ramsby and Martin Hederos, released 16 October 2006 on Amigo Musik. It is the second collaboration by the duo (''Visorna'' was released in 2004). The album consists of English-language jazz standards, translated into Swedish by Ramsby, as well as new compositions by Hederos and Ramsby. Tracks include Swedish versions of "I Got It Bad (and That Ain't Good)" by Duke Ellington, " Open the Door" by Betty Carter and "Lover Man" by Jimmy Davis, Roger Ramirez and Jimmy Sherman. The album reached No. 36 on the Swedish Sverigetopplistan Sverigetopplistan (, lit. Nino Ramsby
Nino Ramsby, born ''Nina'' Ramsby, is a Swedish singer-songwriter and musician from Stockholm. During the 1990s he was the vocalist and guitarist for the alternative rock band Salt. He was also part of the bands Baxter and Grand Tone Music. Ramsby was born to a Finnish mother and a Swedish father. In 2006 Ramsby released an album titled ''Jazzen'' with Martin Hederos on Amigo. The album peaked at No. 36 on the Swedish Sverigetopplistan chart. In 2008 he released ''Du Har Blivit Stor Nu'' on Moserobie. He also plays and records with the Ludvig Berghe Trio. Lowell Fillmore "Sly" Dunbar (born 10 May 1952, Kingston, Jamaica) is a drummer, best known as one half of the prolific Jamaican rhythm section and reggae production duo Sly and Robbie. Biography Dunbar began playing at 15 in a band called The Yardbrooms. His first appearance on a recording was on the Dave and Ansell Collins album ''Double Barrel''. Eunice Kathleen Waymon (February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003), known professionally as Nina Simone (), was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Her music spanned styles including classical, folk, gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and pop. The sixth of eight children born from a poor family in Tryon, North Carolina, Simone initially aspired to be a concert pianist. With the help of a few supporters in her hometown, she enrolled in the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. Kristina Ulrika Nordenstam (born 4 March 1969), better known by her stage name Stina Nordenstam, is a Swedish singer-songwriter and producer. Life and career Nordenstam was born in Stockholm on 4 March 1969. As a child, she was highly influenced by her father's classical and jazz music collection. Her debut album, '' Memories of a Color'', was released in 1991. Paul Francis Webster (December 20, 1907 – March 18, 1984) was an American lyricist who won three Academy Awards for Best Original Song, and was nominated sixteen times for the award. Life and career Webster was born in New York City, United States, the son of Myron Lawrence Webster and Blanche Pauline Stonehill Webster. His family was Jewish. His father was born in Augustów, Poland. Roger "Ram" Ramirez (September 15, 1913 – 11 January 1994) was a Puerto Rican jazz pianist and composer. He was a co-composer of the song "Lover Man (Oh, Where Can You Be?)" Early life Ramirez was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico on September 15, 1913. He grew up in New York and started playing the piano at a young age. Later life and career Ramirez's first professional performances were in the early 1930s. In 1933 he played with Monette Moore, then with Rex Stewart and Sid Catlett in New York. He joined Willie Bryant in 1935, and toured Europe with Bobby Martin in 1937. During the first half of the 1940s Ramirez played with Ella Fitzgerald, Frankie Newton, Charlie Barnet, John Kirby, and Catlett, in addition to leading his own band. Sverigetopplistan (, lit. "the Sweden top list") is the Swedish national record chart, formerly known as Topplistan (1975–1997) and Hitlistan (1998–2007) and known by its current name since October 2007, based on sales data from the Swedish Recording Industry Association (in Swedish Grammofonleverantörernas förening). Before Topplistan, music sales in Sweden were recorded by Kvällstoppen, whose weekly chart was a combined albums and singles list.
