Jayashree Patanekar
Jayashree R. Patanekar is a Hindustani classical vocalist. She has received training in Gwalior, Jaipur and Kirana gharana. She has received training from the great maestro Gajananrao Joshi. Early life and Tutelage Jayashri Patanekar's family is originally from Sawantvadi. Patanekar was initiated into Hindustani classical music by the late Vithalrao Pai at Sawantwadi. Her family shifted base to Goregaon in Mumbai. Her father was a painter and later started working in secretariat. When she was 16 she began learning under K. D. Gavkar of the Kirana gharana at Mumbai. Gavkar guruji was disciple of Abdul Karim Khan. She learnt from him for quite some time and participated in All India Radio music competition in 1963 where she came second. Sawai Gandharva Music Festival
The Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav (formerly known as the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav and simply known as Sawai) is an annual Indian Classical music festival held in Pune since 1953. The festival is hosted by the Arya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal (ASPM) and initiated by Bhimsen Joshi as a memorial music conference commemorating the life and work of Joshi's guru, Sawai Gandharva, the festival's namesake. While Joshi was leading the organisation of the festival, performing artists received personal invitations from him to perform at it. With an emphasis on Hindustani Classical Khayal music, instrumentalists, dancers, dhrupadiyas, Bhakti musicians, Ghazal musicians, Qawwaliyas, and Carnatic musicians frequent the concert lineup. Goregaon ( oːɾeɡaːʋ is a suburb of Mumbai city, in the Mumbai Suburban district of India. It has a railway station on the Mumbai suburban railway on the Western Line. An extension of the Harbour Line was completed in 2018 because of which it has regular trains to CSMT on the Harbour line. This is in addition to existing trains to Churchgate on the Western Line. Sawantwadi is a taluka (a unit of administration) in the Sindhudurg district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The taluka headquarters is Sawantwadi which has a municipal council, which is a local civic body. Sawantwadi was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Sawantwadi, ruled by the Sawant Bhonsle royal clan of the Marathas. Gajananrao Joshi
Gajanan Anant Joshi, better known as "Gajananbuwa Joshi", (January 30, 1911 – June 28, 1987) was a vocalist and violinist in the field of Hindustani music. Early life and background Gajananrao Joshi came from a family of musicians. His grandfather Manohar had studied dhrupad and dhamar, and his father Anant Manohar Joshi (known as Antu-buwa Joshi) was a khayal singer who had studied under Balakrishnabuwa Ichalkaranjikar. Gajananbuwa studied ''gayaki'' (singing style) of the Gwalior gharana under his father and also under other teachers in whom he found something to learn, and assimilated other styles in his art. Kirana Gharana
Kirana gharana is one of the Indian classical khyal gharanas, and is concerned foremost with perfect intonation of notes (swara). Singing style The central concern of the Kirana style is swara, or individual notes, in particular precise tuning and expression of notes. In the Kirana Gayaki (singing style), the individual notes (swaras) of the raga are not just random points in the scale, but independent realms of music capable of horizontal expansion. Emotional ''pukars'' in the higher octaves form a part of the musical experience. Another unique feature of this gharana is the intricate and ornate use of the ''sargam taan'' (weaving patterns with the notations themselves) introduced by Abdul Karim Khan under influence from the Carnatic classical style.
