Jay Townsend (golfer)
Jay Townsend (born March 14, 1962) is an American professional golfer and broadcaster. Touring professional career Townsend was born in Michigan but grew up in Ohio. His father was a club professional. Townsend attended the University of Florida and was on the golf team. He was an All-American and graduated in 1984. He succeeded qualified for the European Tour in the fall of 1984 and joined the European Tour before the 1985 season. In his first season, Townsend played in 14 events and made the majority of cuts. However he did not record many high finishes while retaining his tour card. Townsend’s Career in Europe stretched form 1985 through 1998. He says he enjoyed the experience in Europe immensely. He stated later in life, "I picked up more in my first five years in Europe than I did in 17 years of school at home. I saw the world and it made me a more rounded person." Heber City, Utah
Heber City is a city and county seat of Wasatch County, Utah, Wasatch County, Utah, United States. The population was 11,362 at the time of the 2010 census. It is located 43 miles southeast of Salt Lake City. History Heber City was first settled in 1859 by Robert Broadhead, James Davis, and James Gurr. John W. Witt built the first house in the area. Official World Golf Ranking
The Official World Golf Ranking is a system for rating the performance level of professional golfers. It was started in 1986. The rankings are based on a player's position in individual tournaments (i.e. not pairs or team events) over a "rolling" two-year period. New rankings are calculated each week. During 2018, nearly 400 tournaments on 20 tours were covered by the ranking system. All players competing in these tournaments are included in the rankings. In 2022, 23 tours factored into the world rankings. As well as being of general interest, the rankings have an additional importance, in that they are used as one of the qualifying criteria for entry into a number of leading tournaments. The Open Championship
The Open Championship, often referred to as The Open or the British Open, is the oldest golf tournament in the world, and one of the most prestigious. Founded in 1860, it was originally held annually at Prestwick Golf Club in Scotland. Later the venue rotated between a select group of coastal links golf courses in the United Kingdom. It is organised by the R&A. The Open is one of the four men's major golf tournaments, the others being the Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. Irish Open (golf)
The Irish Open (currently known as the Horizon Irish Open for sponsorship reasons) () is a professional golf tournament on the European Tour. The Irish Open was first played in 1927 and was played annually, except for the war years, until 1950. There was a tournament in 1953, but the event was then not played again until revived in 1975. It has been contested annually since then. From 1963 to 1974 Carroll's sponsored a tournament, generally called the Carroll's International and in 1975 they became the sponsor of the Irish Open which became known as the Carroll's Irish Open.
