Young Forever
"Young Forever" is a song by American rapper Jay-Z, released in early 2010 as the fifth single from his 2009 album ''The Blueprint 3'' on the Roc Nation label. The song was produced by Kanye West. It is a rework of Alphaville's 1984 song " Forever Young": the original melody is retained, British singer Mr. Hudson sings the original lyrics (primarily during the first verse and the chorus), and Jay-Z raps during the following verses in place of the original song's additional verses. It was released as the third official single in the United Kingdom (" D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)" was never officially released there). In that country, the song was originally scheduled to be released on the same day as Mr. Hudson's other collaboration with N-Dubz, " Playing with Fire", but the single was pushed back until January 25, 2010. The song has been performed several times by Jay-Z accompanied by Beyoncé in place of Mr. Hudson, such as at the 2010 Coachella festival where Jay-Z was a h ...

Encore (Jay-Z Song)
"Encore" is a hip-hop song from Jay-Z's '' The Black Album''. It features guest vocals by John Legend, Don Crawley, GLC and Kanye West. The song was released by Roc-A-Fella Records and produced by West for Konman Productions. "Encore" received much popularity in 2004 when it was mixed with Linkin Park's hit single " Numb" on the mash-up album ''Collision Course'' as "Numb/Encore", which went on to win a Grammy Award. Background ''The Black Album'' was touted by Jay Z as his last album before he retired from rap music. He cited a perceived lack of competition as reason for his retirement, stating "The game ain't hot. I love when someone makes a hot album and then you've got to make a hot album. I love that. But it ain't hot." Many critics doubted the longevity of Jay Z's retirement, and Ryan Schrieber of ''Pitchfork'' speculated that the retirement declarations could constitute "an elaborate publicity stunt." Lyrically, "Encore" deals with these themes and addresses rumors o ...

Big Pimpin'
"Big Pimpin'" is a song by American rapper Jay-Z. It was released on April 11, 2000 as the third and final single from his fourth studio album '' Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter'' (1999). It features a guest appearance from Southern hip hop duo UGK, and production from Timbaland. Sampling controversy "Big Pimpin'" contained a sample of "Khosara Khosara", an instrumental performed by Hossam Ramzy and originally composed by Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi in 1957. In 2007, Hamdi's relative Osama Ahmed Fahmy filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Federal Court alleging that producer Timbaland's use of the track was unlicensed, while its use of a sampled loop, instead of the full unaltered track, violated Hamdi's "moral rights". He additionally claimed that Jay-Z needed permission from each of Hamdi's four children to use the track, as they owned its copyright after Hamdi's death in 1993. That same year, a 2005 lawsuit filed by Ahab Joseph Nafal, who claimed "Big Pimpin'" infringed the ...

Can I Get A
"Can I Get A..." is a song recorded by American rapper Jay-Z, featuring Ja Rule and Amil. It was released on ''Def Jam's Rush Hour Soundtrack'' in promotion of the film ''Rush Hour'', but also appears on Jay-Z's third album '' Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life'' as its first single. The song is produced by Irv Gotti and Lil' Rob. The song is notable for popularizing a young Amil and Ja Rule, as well as becoming one of Jay-Z's most commercially successful singles at the time, peaking at number 19 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The chorus of the original song starts with "Can I Get A 'Fuck You'?", but it was censored to "Can I Get A 'What What'?" and ".. whoop whoop" for radio airplay. The song deals with the question of whether Jay-Z's girlfriend would stick with him if he weren't wealthy. The vinyl "Can I Get A..." single was released in 1998 with two tracks that do not feature Jay-Z: Ja Rule's "Bitch Betta Have My Money" and Wu-Tang Clan's "And You Don't Stop". The CD single was release ...

Swagga Like Us
"Swagga Like Us" is a song by American hip hop recording artists Jay-Z and T.I. The song features guest verses from fellow American rappers Lil Wayne and Kanye West, the latter of whom also produced the song, constructing primarily around a vocal sample of "Paper Planes" by British musician M.I.A. It was released on September 6, 2008, in the United States as the fifth single from T.I.'s sixth album ''Paper Trail'' (2008). The track was also initially slated for inclusion on Jay-Z's eleventh album ''The Blueprint 3'' (2009), however it ultimately failed to make the final track listing. "Swagga like Us" received mostly mixed reviews from music critics: whilst many complimented T.I.'s performance and the production, most denounced the other three rappers' performances as lyrically uninspired and overly brash, with Wayne and West also singled out for criticism for the perceived overuse of Auto-Tune in their vocals. Commercially, however, the song was a success despite a prematu ...

A Star Is Born (Jay-Z Song)
"A Star Is Born" is a song by American hip hop recording artist Jay-Z from his eleventh studio album ''The Blueprint 3'' (2009). The song, produced by Kanye West, Kenoe and No I.D., features a verse from American rapper J. Cole, Jay-Z's protege and the first artist to be signed to his Roc Nation label. In the song, Jay-Z recognizes rappers who have risen to fame in the last decade, such as Kanye West, Lil Wayne, T.I., Eminem and 50 Cent. Notably, Jay-Z also gives shout-outs to Mobb Deep, Nas and two artists whom he had previously insulted on his 2001 song "Takeover". Background and recording After graduating from college, J. Cole sought to attract the attention of Jay-Z in the hopes of working with him. Following several efforts, including increased social networking activity and seeking internships at recording studios, J. Cole was finally contacted by Jay-Z and invited to contribute to his eleventh studio album ''The Blueprint 3'' (2009). Cole also subsequently signed a recor ...

Dirt Off Your Shoulder
"Dirt off Your Shoulder" is the second single released from Jay-Z's 2003 album '' The Black Album''. In 2004, the song was combined with the Linkin Park single "Lying from You" and released as a single for the mash-up album ''Collision Course''. Political influence On April 17, 2008, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama referenced the song in gesture, in response to sharp attacks from his then-rival Hillary Clinton and a debate which was widely criticized for focusing on campaign gaffes rather than on candidates' policy positions. Referencing his opponents' "textbook Washington" tactics, focusing on personal attacks and trivial issues, Obama used Jay-Z's hand signal to "brush the dirt" off his shoulders. When asked whether Obama was deliberately referencing the song, a campaign spokesman said, "He has some Jay-Z on his iPod." Clinton later made the same gesture during her appearance before the House Select Committee on Benghazi. Formats and track listings A-Side # Di ...
