Javier Escalza
Javier Escalza Ellakuria (10 December 1952 – 16 November 2007) was a Spanish footballer who played as a defender. Club career Born in Arrankudiaga, Biscay, Escalza began playing with amateurs CD Villosa, returning to organized football only two years later with Barakaldo CF in Segunda División. In the following summer, aged 21, he joined Basque giants Athletic Bilbao, making his La Liga debut on 27 April 1974 in a 0–1 away loss against UD Las Palmas, his only appearance of the season. From there onwards, Escalza became an undisputed starter for the ''Lions'': in the 1976–77 campaign he played 51 official games as the team finished in third position in the league and reached the UEFA Cup final, losing on the away goals rule to Juventus FC. Basque Country National Football Team
The Basque Country representative football team (officially, in Basque, 'Euskal selekzioa') represents the Basque Country in football. It selects players from the Basque Country autonomous community, Navarre and the French Basque Country and is organised by the Basque Football Federation. It is not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA and therefore only allowed to play friendly matches against FIFA or non-FIFA affiliated teams. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Segunda División B ( en, Second Division B) was the third tier of the Spanish football league system containing 102 teams divided into five groups, until it was replaced by the new structure in 2021. It was administered by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The Campeonato de España–Copa de Su Majestad el Rey, commonly known as Copa del Rey or simply La Copa and formerly known as Copa del Presidente de la República (1932–36) and Copa del Generalísimo (1939–76), is an annual knockout football competition in Spanish football, organized by the Royal Spanish Football Federation. Away Goals Rule
The away goals rule is a method of tiebreaker, tiebreaking in association football and other sports when teams play each other twice, once at each team's home ground. Under the away goals rule, if the total goals scored by each team are equal, the team that has scored more goals "Road (sports), away from home" wins. This is sometimes expressed by saying that away goals "count double" in the event of a tie, though in practice the team with more away goals is simply recorded as the victor, rather than having additional or 'double' goals added to their total. The away goals rule is most often invoked in two-legged tie, two-leg fixtures, where the initial result is determined by the aggregate score — i.e. the scores of both games are added together. The 1977 UEFA Cup Final was played on 4 May 1977 and 18 May 1977 between Italian side Juventus F.C., Juventus and Spanish side Athletic Bilbao, Athletic Club.
