Javan Pied Myna
The Javan pied myna (''Gracupica jalla'') is a species of starling in the family Sturnidae. Its Indonesian name is . Its plumage is black and white, with a black collar. It was found in most of Java and Bali (but has been potentially extirpated from there since the mid 2010s) and formerly in southern Sumatra (where it is known to have been extirpated since the 1990s). Due to mass collection for the illegal wildlife trade and heavy pesticide use in the agricultural lands it used for feeding, it is now feared to be extinct in the wild. It previously was considered a subspecies of the pied myna, which has now been split into three species; it can be distinguished from the other species by the lack of reddish-orange coloration on its bill base and an extensive patch of red-orange bare skin around the eyes. Gembira Loka Zoo
Gembira Loka Zoo is a zoological garden located in Yogyakarta, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Gembira Loka Zoo was opened in 1956 and comprises a botanical garden, orchid nursery, artificial lake, children's park, numerous bridges across the Gajahwong River, and a collection of approximately 470 animals, most notable of which are its Komodo dragons, orangutans, gibbons, and hippopotamus. Thomas Horsfield
Thomas Horsfield (May 12, 1773 – July 24, 1859) was an American physician and natural history, naturalist who worked extensively in Indonesia, describing numerous species of plants and animals from the region. He was later a curator of the East India Company Museum in London. Early life Horsfield was born in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and studied medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He was the grandson of Timothy Horsfield, Sr. (1708-1773), who was born in Liverpool and emigrated to New York in 1725. In New York, his brother Isaac and he ran a butcher shop. The Horsfield family converted from the Church of England to Moravianism, a Protestant denomination with a strong emphasis on education. In 1748, Horsfield, Sr. applied for permission to reside in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He, however, moved only his family to Bethlehem and joined them the next year.
