Jasper Independent School District is a public school district based in Jasper, Texas. Jasper ISD serves the city of Jasper. History In 1948 the district absorbed an area formerly in the Vernon County Line Common School District which had only white students. In 2009, the school district was rated "Texas Education Agency accountability ratings system, recognized" by the Texas Education Agency. Effective the 2022–2023 school year the district will hold classes four days per week instead of five. Jasper is a city in and the county seat of Jasper County, Texas, United States. Its population was 6,884 at the 2020 U.S. Census, down from 7,590 at the 2010 U.S. Census. Jasper is situated in the Deep East Texas subregion, about west of the Texas-Louisiana state line. Jasper (the "Butterfly Capital of Texas") holds an annual Butterfly Festival the first Saturday in October to celebrate the migration of the monarch butterflies. History 19th century The area, which was then part of Mexican Texas, was settled around 1824 by John Bevil.
