Jason Charles Staurovsky (born March 23, 1963 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is a former American football placekicker from 1987 to 1992. He attended Bishop Kelley High School and the University of Tulsa, for whom he is the all-time leading scorer. He played for the St Louis Cardinals in 1987, the New England Patriots from 1988 to 1991, and the New York Jets The New York Jets are a professional American football team based in the New York metropolitan area. Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Prior to the 1934 standardization of the prolate spheroid shape of the ball, drop kicking was the prevalent method of kicking field goals and conversions, but even after its replacement by place kicking, until the 1960s the kicker almost always doubled at another position on the roster. George Blanda, Lou Groza, Frank Gifford and Paul Hornung are prominent examples of players who were stars at other positions as well as being known for their kicking abilities.
