Jason Ruff
Jason C. Ruff (born January 27, 1970) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. Career Ruff was the third pick, 96th overall selection of the St. Louis Blues in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. The following year, he was part of the WHL East First All-Star Team. Ruff is a graduate of the Western Hockey League, where he spent four seasons as a member of the Lethbridge Hurricanes before joining the NHL with St. Louis Blues and later Tampa Bay Lightning. Ruff has played for the Belfast Giants since the 2001–2002 season, with one year sojourns to Ingolstadt in the DEL (2002–2003) and Kansas City Outlaws (2004–2005). He was captain of the Giants in 2003–2004 and in the 2006–2007 season he was a Player/Assistant Coach. Winger (ice Hockey)
Winger, in the game of ice hockey, is a forward position of a player whose primary zone of play is along the outer playing areas. They typically flank the centre forward. Originally the name was given to forward players who went up and down the sides of the rink. Wingers generally have the least defensive responsibilities out of any position on the ice, however they are still tasked with defensive duties such as forechecking duties or covering the point in the defensive zone. Nowadays, there are different types of wingers in the game — out-and-out goal scorers, checkers who disrupt the opponents, and forwards who work along the boards and in the corners. 1993–94 NHL Season
The 1993–94 NHL season was the 77th regular season of the National Hockey League. The league expanded to 26 teams with the addition of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Florida Panthers. The New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games to become the Stanley Cup champions. It was the Rangers' fourth championship overall, and their first in 54 seasons, since 1939–40. The spectacular play of Dominik Hasek of the Buffalo Sabres ushered in a new era of goaltending dominance in the NHL. Only three teams reached the 300-goal plateau, and only one team, the Detroit Red Wings, averaged more than four goals scored per game. Atlanta Knights
The Atlanta Knights were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the International Hockey League (1945–2001), International Hockey League from 1992 to 1996. The 1992–93 NHL season was the 76th regular season of the National Hockey League. Each player wore a patch on their jersey throughout the season to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Stanley Cup. The league expanded to 24 teams with the addition of the Ottawa Senators and the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Montreal Canadiens won their league-leading 24th Cup by defeating the Los Angeles Kings four games to one. This remains the last time that a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup. It proved, at the time, to be the highest-scoring regular season in NHL history, as a total of 7,311 goals were scored over 1,008 games for an average of 7.25 per game. The International Hockey League (IHL) was a minor professional ice hockey league in the United States and Canada that operated from 1945 to 2001. The IHL served as the National Hockey League's alternate Farm team, farm system to the American Hockey League (AHL). After 56 years of operation, financial instability led to the league's demise. Peoria Rivermen (IHL)
The Peoria Rivermen were an ice hockey team that played in the International Hockey League. They played in Peoria, Illinois at the Carver Arena. A new team with the Peoria Rivermen name currently competes in the Southern Professional Hockey League. History The Peoria Rivermen were founded in 1982–83 in the International Hockey League, operating under owner Ken Wilson as the Peoria Prancers. The franchise was taken over by the Peoria Civic Center in 1984, which held a contest with the ''Peoria Journal Star'' newspaper to rename the team with Rivermen as the winner.
