Jason Fischer (writer)
Jason Fischer is a speculative fiction writer from South Australia, Australia. He is predominantly recognised as a writer in the science fiction, fantasy and horror genres. Fischer's stories have appeared in a number of publications including Beneath Ceaseless Skies, On Spec, Review of Australian Fiction, Aurealis and Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine. His story "For Want of a Jesusman" was reprinted in the ''Year's Best Australian Science Fiction and Fantasy'' Vol 5, edited by Bill Congreve. His zombie apocalypse novel "Quiver" was published in 2012 by Black House Comics, and his first short story collection "Everything is a Graveyard" was published by Ticonderoga Publications in 2013. Fischer won the inaugural 2015 Aurealis Award for the Best Fantasy Novella, and was 1st Place Winner, Writers of the Future, 2nd Quarter 2009. Ditmar Award
The Ditmar Award (formally the Australian SF ("Ditmar") Award; formerly the "Australian Science Fiction Achievement Award") has been awarded annually since 1969 at the Australian National Science Fiction Convention (the "Natcon") to recognise achievement in Australian science fiction (including fantasy and horror) and science fiction fandom. The award is similar to the Hugo Award but on a national rather than international scale. They are named for Martin James Ditmar "Dick" Jenssen, an Australian fan and artist, who financially supported the awards at their inception. The current rules for the award (which had for many years been specified only in the minimalist "Jack Herman constitution") were developed in 2000 and 2001 as a result of controversy resulting from the withdrawal of the works of several prominent writers from eligibility, and the rules are subject to revision by the "Business Meeting" of the Natcon. Black House Comics was an Australian independent comic book and graphic novel publisher. Publisher Baden Kirgan started the company in 2008 when he decided to create an "Australia Vertigo" comics arm within his commercially successful printing company—Jeffries Printing Services. Speculative fiction is a term that has been used with a variety of (sometimes contradictory) meanings. The broadest interpretation is as a category of fiction encompassing genres with elements that do not exist in reality, recorded history, nature, or the present universe. Such fiction covers various themes in the context of supernatural, futuristic, and other imaginative realms. Bill Congreve
Bill Congreve is an Australian writer, editor and reviewer of speculative fiction. He has also published the work of Australian science fiction and horror writers under his MirrorDanse imprint. Biography Congreve's first work was published in 1987 with his short story "Collector" which was featured in the Summer 1986/1987 edition of Aphelion Science Fiction Magazine. In 1992 Congreve's first edited anthology was released by Five Islands Press, featuring a short story and introduction by Congreve as well as 10 other stories by different authors. In 1994 Congreve founded his publishing company MirrorDanse Books which specialises in science fiction and horror.
