Jason Ball (Australian Footballer)
Jason Ball (born 21 November 1972) is a former Australian rules football player with the West Coast Eagles and Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). The ruckman made his AFL debut for West Coast in 1992, and went on to play 103 games for them, scoring 114 goals, being part of the 1994 premiership side and winning the 1995 leading goal-kicker award. He was traded to Sydney after the 1999 season and went on to play 90 games for them. During the 2005 finals series, he announced he would retire at the end of the season. Sydney then reached the grand final, and Ball ended his career on a high note, winning his second premiership, against his former club. Swan Districts Football Club
The Swan Districts Football Club, nicknamed the Swans, is an Australian rules football club playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) and WAFL Women's (WAFLW). The club is based at Bassendean Oval, in Bassendean, an eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. The club was formed in 1932, and joined the then-Western Australian National Football League (WANFL) in 1934, acting as a successor to the Midland Junction Football Club, which had disbanded during World War I, in the Perth Hills region. History Swan Districts finished seventh on the WANFL ladder winning seven out of 21 games in their debut season in 1934. The presence of established WANFL players like inaugural captain-coach "Judda" Bee from East Fremantle and Fred Sweetapple from West Perth was critical to the fledgling club's competitiveness. 1997 AFL Season
The 1997 AFL season was the 101st season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season ran from 27 March until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Before the season, the Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL) was admitted to the league, increasing the South Australian membership to two clubs. Foundation club Fitzroy, which had gone into administration in 1996, merged with the Brisbane Bears to form a new Queensland-based club known as the Brisbane Lions. The Footscray Football Club changed its name to the Western Bulldogs. With these changes, the league's size remained at sixteen clubs.
