Jason Ablewhite
Jason Ablewhite is the former Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire (PCC), representing the Conservative Party. He is also a former Huntingdonshire district councillor for St Ives. He was elected to the PCC post in the 2016 election, succeeding the previous incumbent, Graham Bright. Ablewhite was elected as a Conservative councillor in St Ives in 2005, and was Conservative leader of the district council for five years, before standing down in 2015 to take up the role of PCC. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner, an elected official tasked with setting out the way crime is tackled by Cambridgeshire Police in the English County of Cambridgeshire. The post was created in November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the Cambridgeshire Police Authority. The post was filled by Sir Graham Bright from 2012 to 2016, then by Jason Ablewhite, both of whom represented the Conservative Party. Graham Bright
Sir Graham Frank James Bright (born 2 April 1942) is a British politician and businessman. A member of the Conservative Party, he served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1979 to 1997. He subsequently served as the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner from 2012 to 2016. Political career An active Young Conservative, he cut his political teeth as a member of Thurrock Borough Council from 1965–79, and of Essex County Council from 1967–70. He stood unsuccessfully for Parliament in 1970 and 1974 in Thurrock, and in Dartford at the second general election of 1974, before being elected in Luton East in 1979. 2016 England And Wales Police And Crime Commissioner Elections
Elections of police and crime commissioners in England and Wales were held on 5 May 2016. The elections were for 40 of the 43 territorial police forces in England and Wales using the supplementary vote system; the two police forces of Greater London are not involved (the elected Mayor of London is classed as the police and crime commissioner for the Metropolitan Police District, while the Court of Common Council fulfils the role for the City of London Police). There was no election for the Greater Manchester Police as the role of police and crime commissioner was due to be abolished in 2017 and replaced with the directly elected Mayor of Greater Manchester. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is a non-departmental public body in England and Wales which, since 8 January 2018, is responsible for overseeing the system for handling complaints made against police forces in England and Wales. Most allegations of police misconduct are investigated by police forces' own professional standards departments (with oversight by the IOPC). However the IOPC does conduct independent investigations of serious allegations of misconduct or criminal offences by police officers and other law enforcement officers.
