Jasmine Bligh
Jasmine Lydia Bligh (20 May 1913 – 21 July 1991) was one of the first three BBC Television Service presenters in the 1930s. Along with Leslie Mitchell and Elizabeth Cowell, she provided continuity announcements introducing programmes in-vision. Early life and pre-war career Bligh was born in London, England and was the niece of Esme Ivo Bligh, the 9th Earl of Darnley, and also said by her biography at the National Portrait Gallery to be a descendant of Captain William Bligh, the commander famously usurped in the Mutiny on the Bounty in the 18th century. Intending to begin a career as an actress, Bligh met with some opposition from her mother. However, she became a Charlot showgirl at the Cambridge Theatre, London, aged 17. Jasmine ( taxonomic name: ''Jasminum''; , ) is a genus of shrubs and vines in the olive family (Oleaceae). Olga Edwardes
Olga Edwardes (born Olga Florence Solomon; 20 May 1915 – 23 July 2008) was a South African-born British actress and artist. Personal life Her father was Joseph Michael Solomon (1883–1920), an architect partner of Herbert Baker, but he committed suicide in 1920 at the age of 33, in Cape Town. Her mother was Jean Elizabeth Emily Cox née Hamilton (1885–1946), a South African actress, who was a divorcée (at least twice) when she married Solomon in 1914 in Cape Town. They also had a son, Paul Lionel Joseph (1918–1987). Her mother married again in Cape Town in 1922 to Hugh Edwards (1887-?), a company secretary, who thus became the stepfather of Olga and Paul. Olga Edwardes married P/O Anthony Max Baerlein in 1941, but he was killed in action later the same year. In 1946, she married her second husband Nicholas Davenport, an economist and journalist who was more than twenty years her senior. He died in 1979; she died in Elstree in 2008. Howard Percival Marshall (22 August 1900 at Sutton, Surrey – ) achieved distinction in several fields, but is best remembered as a pioneering commentator for live broadcasts of state occasions and sporting events — in particular cricket Test matches — for BBC radio during the 1930s. Marshall was the only son of publisher Percival Marshall and Zoe Beatrice (née Bridger). After Haileybury, he went to Oriel College, Oxford, winning a rugby union Blue. He captained the Harlequins rugby team. He trained as a journalist, and joined the BBC in 1927. Within ten years he had become the premier radio Outside Broadcast commentator, being chosen to describe the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937, as well as that of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Thames Television, commonly simplified to just Thames, was a Broadcast license, franchise holder for a region of the British ITV (TV network), ITV television network serving Greater London, London and surrounding areas from 30 July 1968 until the night of 31 December 1992. Thames Television broadcast from 9:25 Monday morning to 5:15 Friday afternoon (7:00 Friday night until 1982) at which time it would hand over to London Weekend Television (LWT). ''Mickey's Gala Premier'' is a Walt Disney cartoon produced in 1933, directed by Burt Gillett, and featuring parodies of several famous Hollywood film actors from the 1930s. It was the 58th Mickey Mouse short film, and the eighth of that year. Some sources claim this cartoon is called ''"Mickey's Gala Premiere"''. However ''"Premier"'' can be clearly read from the title card. Plot A new Mickey Mouse cartoon will have its premiere in the Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
