Jarosław Godek
Jarosław Godek (born 5 August 1981 in Szubin, Poland) is a Polish rower. He finished 6th in the men's coxless four at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In 2008, he and team-mate Piotr Hojka reached the C-final in the men's coxless pair. At the 2012 Summer Olympics he reached the semi-final of the men's coxless pairs with team-mate Wojciech Gutorski. Szubin
Szubin (german: Schubin) is a town in Nakło County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland, located southwest of Bydgoszcz. It has a population of around 9,300. It is located in the ethnocultural region of Pałuki. History The first record of a settlement next to the castle of the Pałuka family was noted in 1365. It became a town in 1434. Szubin was a private town of Polish nobility, including the Mycielski and Opaliński families, administratively located in the Kcynia County in the Kalisz Voivodeship in the Greater Poland Province of the Polish Crown. It was granted new privileges in 1645 and 1750. In 1773, it was annexed by Prussia during the Partitions of Poland. In 1783, the town had a population of 1,170, of which 936 (80%) were Poles, 154 (13%) were Germans and 80 (7%) were Jews. Wojciech Gutorski
Wojciech Gutorski (born 25 May 1982 in Bydgoszcz) is a Polish rower. He participated in three Olympic Games so far, including the 2012 Summer Olympics in London where he competed in the Men's Pair event together with his teammate Jarosław Godek. They finished fourth in the B finals, earning them a tenth place overall. Rowing At The 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's Coxless Pair
The Men's coxless pair competition at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London took place are at Dorney Lake which, for the purposes of the Games venue, is officially termed Eton Dorney. Competition format The format of the competition was determined by how many boats are competing as at the entry deadline at the beginning of July. With 13 boats in with heats, the best boats qualify directly for the semi-finals. All other boats progress to the repechage round, which offers a second chance to qualify for the semi-finals. The best three boats in each of the two semi-finals qualify for final A, which determines places 1–6 (including the medals). Rowing (sport)
Rowing, sometimes called crew in the United States, is the sport of racing boats using oars. It differs from paddling sports in that rowing oars are attached to the boat using oarlocks, while paddles are not connected to the boat. Rowing is divided into two disciplines: sculling and sweep rowing. In sculling, each rower holds two oars—one in each hand, while in sweep rowing each rower holds one oar with both hands. There are several boat classes in which athletes may compete, ranging from single sculls, occupied by one person, to shells with eight rowers and a coxswain, called eights. There are a wide variety of course types and formats of racing, but most elite and championship level racing is conducted on calm water courses long with several lanes marked using buoys.
