Japanese Whispers
''Japanese Whispers'' is the second compilation album by British group The Cure. It was released in late 1983 by Fiction Records. It includes the singles "Let's Go to Bed", "The Walk" and "The Lovecats". The other tracks are the B-sides of these singles, although "Mr. Pink Eyes" (the second B-side for "The Lovecats") was not included. The songs were recorded when the band was in a transitional phase after bassist Simon Gallup left following a tour to promote the previous album, ''Pornography''. Beginning with these singles, Lol Tolhurst switched from drums to keyboards, a role he kept until his departure in 1989. For the tracks from the "Let's Go to Bed" and "The Walk" singles, the Cure was a duo consisting of Tolhurst and Robert Smith, with the addition of session drummer Steve Goulding (a member of Graham Parker and the Rumour) for the tracks from "Let's Go to Bed". The Cure
The Cure are an English Rock music, rock band formed in 1978 in Crawley, Crawley, West Sussex. Throughout numerous lineup changes since the band's formation, guitarist, lead vocalist, and songwriter Robert Smith (musician), Robert Smith has remained the only constant member. The band's debut album, ''Three Imaginary Boys'' (1979), along with several early singles, placed the band in the post-punk and New wave music, new wave movements that had sprung up in the United Kingdom. The Rumour
The Rumour was an English rock band in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They are best known as the backup band for Graham Parker, whose early records (from 1976 to 1980) were credited to Graham Parker & The Rumour. However, The Rumour also recorded on their own, releasing three albums: ''Max'' (1977), ''Frogs, Sprouts, Clogs and Krauts'' (1979), and ''Purity of Essence'' (1980). The group broke up at the end of 1980, but reunited as Parker's backing band in 2011, and have performed and recorded with Parker ever since. The band undertook a short final UK tour in October 2015, finishing with a final concert at the London Forum on 17 October 2015. At this show, the surviving members of the horn section also reunited, for the first time in 33 years. Andy Anderson (musician)
Clifford Leon "Andy" Anderson (30 January 1951 – 26 February 2019) was a British drummer, best known for his work with The Cure and Steve Hillage. Life and work Anderson worked on '' Xitintoday,'' a studio album released by former Hawkwind member Nik Turner's project Sphynx in 1978, which was produced by Steve Hillage. He then joined Hillage's band and appeared on his two 1979 albums, ''Live Herald'' and ''Open''. After a few years as a session musician, he had a brief stint in Hawkwind in 1983, but did not record with them. His tenure in that band was cut short when he played with the Glove on their first and only album '' Blue Sunshine''. This led to him joining the Cure later that year, when original drummer Lol Tolhurst moved to keyboards. Vibraphone
The vibraphone is a percussion instrument in the metallophone family. It consists of tuned metal bars and is typically played by using mallets to strike the bars. A person who plays the vibraphone is called a ''vibraphonist,'' ''vibraharpist,'' or ''vibist''. The vibraphone resembles the steel marimba, which it superseded. One of the main differences between the vibraphone and other keyboard percussion instruments is that each bar suspends over a resonator tube containing a flat metal disc. These discs are attached together by a common axle and spin when the motor is turned on. This causes the instrument to produce its namesake tremolo or vibrato effect. The vibraphone also has a sustain pedal similar to a piano. "The Love Cats" (sometimes rendered as "The Lovecats") is a song by English rock band the Cure, released as a stand-alone single in October 1983. It was the band's first Top 10 hit in the UK, peaking at number 7. It also reached number 6 on the Australian chart in early 1984. Inspiration and recording At the time the song was written, Robert Smith was very interested in the work of Australian author Patrick White. "The Walk" is a song by English rock band The Cure, released as a stand-alone single in July 1983. It later appeared on the compilation album ''Japanese Whispers''. It was recorded when the band was briefly reduced to the two founding members Robert Smith and Lol Tolhurst following the departure of bassist Simon Gallup following the end of the band's previous tour in support of the album Pornography. in May 1982. According to Lol Tolhurst, they chose producer Steve Nye at the time due to his work on the album ''Tin Drum'' by Japan. "Let's Go to Bed" is a song by English rock band the Cure, released as a stand-alone single by Fiction Records in November 1982. In the aftermath of the dark ''Pornography'', Robert Smith returned from a month-long detox in the Lake District to write the song, the antithesis to what the Cure currently represented. It was later included on the album ''Japanese Whispers'', which compiles the band's three singles from 1982-83 and their five B-sides. The single was only a minor success in the UK, peaking at No. 44, but became a Top 20 hit in Australasia in 1983, reaching No. 15 in Australia (for two weeks) and No. 17 in New Zealand. The A-side and B-side are the two sides of phonograph records and cassettes; these terms have often been printed on the labels of two-sided music recordings. A box set or (its original name) boxed set is a set of items (for example, a compilation of books, musical recordings, films or television programs) traditionally packaged in a box and offered for sale as a single unit. Music Artists and bands with an extremely long and successful career often have anthology or "essential" collections of their boxes of music released as box sets.
