Japanese Special Naval Landing Forces
The Special Naval Landing Forces (SNLF; ja, 海軍特別陸戦隊, Kaigun Tokubetsu Rikusentai) were naval infantry units of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) and were a part of the IJN Land Forces. They saw extensive service in the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Pacific theatre of World War II. History Since the late Meiji Era, the IJN had naval landing forces or ''rikusentai'' formed from individual ships's crews, who received infantry training as part of their basic training, for special and/or temporary missions. In addition, troops from Naval Bases known as ''Kaiheidan'' could form a naval landing force. The Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945) or War of Resistance (Chinese term) was a military conflict that was primarily waged between the Republic of China and the Empire of Japan. ''Kaiheidan'' (海兵団, translation: Naval Corps) were units in the Imperial Japanese Navy that were primarily responsible for the training and education of enlisted and non-commissioned officer personnel. In particular, they trained the new recruits after they were recruited by the local recruitment centers around Japan. Each of the four naval districts (Yokosuka, Kure, Sasebo and Maizuru) had its own ''Kaiheidan''. In addition, they also served as the base defence force in the secondary role.
