Marion Mitchell (born 1941 in Seaham, County Durham), better known by her stage name Janie Jones, is a former English singer. She became renowned for holding sex parties at her home during the 1970s, and was jailed for her involvement in 'controlling prostitutes'. She first achieved notoriety in August 1964, when she attended the film premiere of '' London in the Raw'', wearing a topless dress. Career Jones began her show-business career as a cabaret artist in late 1950s London. She performed first at the Windmill Theatre, and later in clubs in Mayfair and elsewhere in London. She began recording songs and embarked on another career as a pop singer in the 1960s, her greatest success coming in 1966 with the novelty song "Witches Brew", which was her first single and peaked at number 46 in the UK Singles Chart. Subsequent releases failed to have any impact in the UK chart, but were all collected and released on the compilation album, ''We're in Love with the World of Janie Jones' ... The song is named after Janie Jones, a cabaret singer who organised sex parties at her Kensington home. A live performance of "Janie Jones" is featured in the 1980 film ''Rude Boy'', and the song has been on the soundtracks of other films as well. The song is the first stated to be on Rob Gordon's list of top five Track Ones Side Ones in the film '' High Fidelity''. Composition The song is named after Janie Jones, a minor English cabaret and pop singer in the 1960s who was convicted in 1974 of "controlling prostitutes" at sex parties she held at her home in Kensington. She was released from prison in 1977, and an allegedly smitten Joe Strummer composed the song in her honour. ''Janie Jones'' is a 2010 American drama film written and directed by David M. Rosenthal. It stars Abigail Breslin as the title character, as well as Alessandro Nivola, Elisabeth Shue, Brittany Snow, and Peter Stormare. The story is about a fading, alcoholic rock star meeting his daughter for the first time after being left by her drugged-up mother, and the growing relationship they have while on tour. Rosenthal based the film's storyline on his real-life meeting with his own daughter. The film makes extensive use of original music created by Gemma Hayes and Eef Barzelay, and is performed by Breslin and Nivola. It was shot in Des Moines in September 2009. It premiered at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival on September 17, 2010, got picked up by Tribeca Film to show at their festival on April 29, 2011, and was given a limited release on October 28.
