Jangipara is a Community development block in India, community development block that forms an administrative division in Srirampore subdivision of Hooghly district in the Indian States and territories of India, state of West Bengal. Overview The Jangipara CD Block is part of the Hooghly-Damodar Plain, one of the three natural regions in the district of the flat alluvium, alluvial plains, that forms part of the Ganges Delta, Gangetic Delta. The region has many depressions which receive water from the surrounding lands during the rainy season and discharge the water through small channels. Srirampore subdivision is an administrative subdivision of the Hooghly district in the state of West Bengal, India. Overview Srirampore subdivision is the most urbanised, and the one with the highest density of population, of all the subdivisions of Hooghly district. Urbanisation started with industrialisation of the Hooghly Flats, the narrow strip of land along the Hooghly and spread inland covering a large portion of Hooghly-Damodar Plain, the agriculturally rich alluvial plains lying between the Hooghly and the Damodar. The entire area is a part of the Gangetic Delta. The Hooghly is a tidal river and has a high west bank. Hooghly District
Hooghly district () is one of the districts of the Indian state of West Bengal. It can alternatively be spelt ''Hoogli'' or ''Hugli''. The district is named after the Hooghly River. The headquarters of the district are at Hooghly-Chinsura (''Chuchura''). There are four subdivisions: Chinsurah Sadar, Srirampore, Chandannagore, and Arambagh. History The district of Hooghly derived its name from the town of Hooghly on the west bank of the Hugli River about 40 km north of Kolkata. This town was a major river port for trade in India before colonialism. The district has thousands of years of rich heritage as part of the Bengali kingdom of Bhurshut. Antpur
Antpur is a village in the Jangipara community development block of the Srirampore subdivision in the Hooghly District in the Indian state of West Bengal. It is around 20 km from Tarakeswar. Haripal is nearest railway station from Antpur. History The most famous temple in Antpur is that of Radhagovindjiu with exquisite terracotta carvings depicting stories from all the 18 puranas. This 100 feet high temple was constructed by Krishna Ram Mitra, the Diwan of Bardhaman Raj in 1786 (1708 Shakabda). Its ''Chandi Mandap'' and ''Dol Mancha'' have beautifully crafted wood carvings and terracotta. The period when the temple was built was curious. Muslim rule was ebbing out and the Europeans were making forays into the country. It is said that Krishna Ram Mitra built the temple to enthuse the Hindus. Rajbalhat
Rajbalhat is a census town in Jangipara CD Block of Srirampore subdivision in Hooghly district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Rajbalhat can be reached conveniently by Bus from Kolkata, Haripal or Tarakeswar. History Tradition has it that Rajbalhat was once the capital of the Bhursut kingdom. It is said that the last fisherman king of Sanibhangar was defeated by one Chaturanan Neogi, who originally carved Bhursut kingdom out. Krishna Roy, the son of a daughter of Chaturanan became the first Raja of Bhursut. This event took place near about 1583–84 AD. The family of Krishna Roy belonged to Phulia village. His great grandson Pratap Narayan, a very charitable ruler, was king from 1652 to 1684 AD. He was given the title of Raja and was known as such in the court of Emperors Shah Jahan and Aurangzeb. Furfura Sharif
Furfura Sharif (also known as Phurphura, Furfura Darbar Sharif) is a village in Jangipara community development block of Srirampore subdivision in Hooghly District in the state of West Bengal, India. It is a holy place for some Bengali Muslims. Before the afternoon prayers, people queue up at the ''mazar'' (shrine) of Mohammad Abu Bakr Siddique (1846-1939), a prominent '' pir'' (holy person) of the town. People say it is the second most prominent ''mazar'' in the country after Ajmer Sharif Dargah in Rajasthan. History The masjid built by Muqlish Khan in 1375 is a site for Muslim pilgrimage, especially during the pir's '' mela'' (fair). It attracts a large number of pilgrims during Urs festival. Oral tradition holds that the Bagdi (Barga Kshatriya) king who ruled here was defeated by Shah Kabir Halibi and Karamuddin, both of whom were killed in the battle.
