Jang Sung-min's Current Affairs Tank ( Korean: 장성민의 시사탱크) was a Korean television program of TV Chosun. It was started on 4 June 2012 and finished on 20 May 2016. On 21 March 2016, the name was changed to Current Affairs Tank ( Korean: 시사탱크). The cast was Jang Sung-min Jang Sung-min (; born 5 September 1963) is a South Korean politician. Korean Language
Korean ( South Korean: , ''hangugeo''; North Korean: , ''chosŏnmal'') is the native language for about 80 million people, mostly of Korean descent. It is the official and national language of both North Korea and South Korea (geographically Korea), but over the past years of political division, the two Koreas have developed some noticeable vocabulary differences. Jang Sung-min (; born 5 September 1963) is a South Korean politician. He was formerly the president of the Grand National Unity Party. Biography Jang was born in Goheung County, South Jeolla Province. He started his political career under former president Kim Dae-jung. He was elected to the National Assembly as a member of the Millennium Democratic Party in 2000 but lost in 2002 due to his violation of election law. Gwangju Uprising
The Gwangju Uprising was a popular uprising in the city of Gwangju, South Korea, from May 18 to May 27, 1980, which pitted local, armed citizens against soldiers and police of the South Korean government. The event is sometimes called 5·18 (May 18; ), in reference to the date the movement began. The uprising is also known as the Gwangju Democratization Struggle (), the Gwangju Massacre, the May 18 Democratic Uprising, or the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement (). The uprising began after local Chonnam University students who were demonstrating against the martial law government were fired upon, killed, raped, and beaten by government troops. Some Gwangju citizens took up arms, raiding local police stations and armouries, and were able to take control of large sections of the city before soldiers re-entered the city and put down the uprising. 2017 South Korean Presidential Election
Early presidential elections were held in South Korea on 9 May 2017 following the impeachment and removal of Park Geun-hye. The elections were conducted in a single round, on a first-past-the-post basis, and had originally been scheduled for 20 December 2017. However, they were brought forward after the decision of the Constitutional Court on 10 March 2017 to uphold the National Assembly's impeachment of Park. Following procedures set out in the Constitution of South Korea, Prime Minister Hwang Kyo-ahn succeeded Park as the acting president. After Park was removed from office by the Constitutional Court's ruling, acting president Hwang announced he would not run for a term in his own right. People's Party (South Korea, 2016)
The People Party () was a liberal political party in South Korea established on 2 February 2016 by Ahn Cheol-soo. The party had a strong support base in the Honam region. The party dissolved on 13 February 2018. A later party of the same name was also founded by Ahn and was active from 2020 to 2022. History Plans for the party began, after Ahn Cheol-soo, who established the Democratic Party of Korea with Kim Han-gil, quit the party in mid-December 2015, after a power struggle with Moon Jae-in. Grand National Unity Party (Korean: 국민대통합당; lit. National Grand Unity Party) was a South Korean neoliberalist party. History The party was formed by Jang Sung-min, a politician and broadcaster of the country, in 7 March 2017 and officially created on 3 April of that same year. Originally, Jang intended to run as a presidential candidate of the People's Party. However, the party refused his entry due to the controversies about the Gwangju Uprising.
