The Janet Smith case concerns the murder of 22-year-old nursemaid Janet Kennedy Smith in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, on 26 July 1924, and the ensuing suspicions of a coverup. Background Janet Smith was born in Perth, Scotland, on 25 June 1902 to railway fireman Arthur Mitchell Tooner Smith and Joanna Benzies. The family moved to London when she was aged 11. In January 1923, Smith obtained a position taking care of the newborn daughter of Frederick and Doreen Baker. Frederick Baker ran an import-export business. Janet Buchanan Adam Smith OBE (9 December 1905 – 11 September 1999) was a writer, editor, literary journalist and champion of Scottish literature. She was active from the 1930s through to the end of the century and noted for her elegant prose, her penetrating judgement, her independence of mind – and her deep love of mountains and mountaineering. Janet Duvenage Smith, CLM (''née'' Watt; 1915 – 3 December 1994), was the wife of Ian Smith, Prime Minister of Rhodesia from 1964 to 1979. Born in Cape Town, South Africa, she studied history at the University of Cape Town and became a teacher. In 1942, she married Piet Duvenage, a rugby player, and had two children. He died in an accident on the rugby field in 1947. The next year, a short visit with family in Southern Rhodesia became permanent when she accepted a teaching job in Selukwe. There, she met her future husband, Ian Smith, who had recently come home from the Second World War. In 1948, the couple got married and bought a farm, and Ian was elected to the Southern Rhodesian Legislative Assembly. Dame Janet Hilary Smith, (born 29 November 1940), styled The Rt Hon. Lady Justice Smith, is an English barrister and former High Court Judge and President of the Council of The Inns of Court. She was the judge who prepared '' The Shipman Inquiry'' (a report on the activities of the British serial killer Harold Shipman) and the '' Dame Janet Smith Review'', (a report on the activities of the British paedophile Jimmy Savile). On 21 November 2002, Smith became the fourth woman to be promoted to the Court of Appeal, but she has since retired from that role. Janet Marie Smith is a Major League Baseball (MLB) executive, architect, and urban planner. Smith has built and managed renovations of several major and minor league baseball parks in the United States including Baltimore, Atlanta, Boston, and Los Angeles. She became one of the first women to hold an executive position with any major league baseball club when she was promoted to Vice President of Planning and Development with the Baltimore Orioles in 1989. Janet Seymour-Smith born Janet de Granville (25 August 1930 – 2 September 1998) was an English translator and scholar. She worked as a translator of Greek texts for Robert Graves and she became a life-long muse and collaborator with her prolific writer husband Martin Seymour-Smith. Life Seymour-Smith was born in 1930 in Littleham near Exmouth. Her parents were Hilda St Hilary Edith Everard (born Mayne) and her husband Lionel Richard Gethin de Glanville. Her father was a physician and she went to school in the south-west and later in North Wales. She went to Oxford to study the classics at Somerville College. When Robert Graves published The Greek Myths in two volumes in 1955 he had based his work on the translations by Janet Seymour-Smith. She began working for Graves in Mallorca where she was employed as a translator while her boyfriend, Martin Seymour-Smith was a tutor to one of Graves' children.
