Jane Getz
Jane Getz (born 12 September 1942) is an American jazz pianist and session musician. She learned classical piano as a child and began playing jazz at the age of nine. She lived in California early in life but when she was sixteen moved to New York City. She found work with Pony Poindexter and later performed with Charles Mingus, Herbie Mann, Stan Getz, Roland Kirk, Jay Clayton (musician), Jay Clayton, Charles Lloyd (jazz musician), Charles Lloyd, and Pharoah Sanders. In the early 1970s, Getz returned to Los Angeles and became a studio musician. She recorded country music for RCA Records, RCA under the name "Mother Hen" and appeared on albums by The Bee Gees, Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, Rick Roberts (musician), Rick Roberts, and John Lennon. She wrote the title track for the 1973 Jimmie Spheeris album ''The Original Tap Dancing Kid''. Getz went into semi-retirement but began playing jazz again in the 1990s. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music. Jazz is characterized by swing and blue notes, complex chords, call and response vocals, polyrhythms and improvisation. Jazz has roots in European harmony and African rhythmic rituals. As jazz spread around the world, it drew on national, regional, and local musical cultures, which gave rise to different styles. Jimmie Spheeris
Jimmie Spheeris (November 5, 1949 – July 4, 1984) was an American singer-songwriter who released four albums in the 1970s on the Columbia Records and Epic Records labels. Spheeris died in 1984, at the age of 34, after a motorcycle accident. Biography Jimmie (James) Spheeris was born in Phenix City, Alabama, to Juanita 'Gypsy' and Andrew Spheeris, who owned and operated a traveling carnival called the Majick Empire. These childhood years of colorful transience were a major influence on later work, as evidenced in songs such as "Lost in the Midway" and "Decatur Street," among others. Spheeris had two sisters, Penelope and Linda, and a brother, Andy. After his father was murdered by a "belligerent carnival-goer," Gypsy Spheeris moved the family to San Diego, California. The Bee Gees were a musical group formed in 1958 by brothers Barry Gibb, Barry, Robin Gibb, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. ''Life in a Tin Can'' is the Bee Gees' eleventh studio album (ninth worldwide), released in January 1973. Background The Bee Gees travelled to Los Angeles to record ''Life in a Tin Can''. However, it was unable to prevent a commercial decline with the album criticised for a lack of innovation. Despite its low sales and poor chart performance, ''Life in a Tin Can'' was awarded "Album of the Year" by '' Record World'' magazine. It was the first Bee Gees album to bear the RSO label in the US. Four of the eight songs were written by all three brothers with the other four being Barry Gibb compositions. "Saw a New Morning" was a No. 1 hit in Hong Kong. During the sessions, Robin Gibb had to leave the sessions suddenly when his son Spencer was born a month early. He returned to Los Angeles a week or so later to continue on into the next album. ''Windmills'' is the debut solo album by country rock musician Rick Roberts. The album was recorded a year after his stint as lead singer of The Flying Burrito Brothers, and two years before co-founding the band Firefall. Roberts was joined on the record by Burrito Brothers bandmate Chris Hillman, as well as three of the Eagles: Don Henley, Bernie Leadon (formerly of the Burrito Brothers), and Randy Meisner. Other guest musicians include David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Al Perkins, Dallas Taylor, Marc Benno and Byron Berline. Eugene Booker McDaniels (February 12, 1935 – July 29, 2011) was an American singer and songwriter. He had his greatest recording success in the early 1960s, reaching number three on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 singles chart with " A Hundred Pounds of Clay" and number five with " Tower Of Strength," both hits in 1961. He had continued success as a songwriter with titles including "Compared to What" and Roberta Flack's " Feel Like Makin' Love". George Braith
George Braith (born George Timothy Braithwaite on June 26, 1939) is a soul-jazz saxophonist from New York. Career Braith is known for playing multiple horns at once, a technique pioneered by Roland Kirk. Braith is credited with the invention of the Braithophone, two different horns (straight alto and soprano) mended together by extensions, valves and connections. Braith is featured in a mosaic in the 72nd street station of the Second Avenue Subway in the New York City Subway system. Musart is an album by American saxophonist George Braith, his second and final effort for Prestige Records. It was recorded in 1966 and 1967, and released in mid 1967 as PRLP 7515. The pieces In the original liner notes, Braith describes the album as "a concert in miniature. Each tune was selected to relay a message of love, peace and tranquility." "Our Blessings" was inspired by Braith's brother, while "Evelyn Anita" was named after his sister, Evelyn, and came to Braith's mind when he stopped to play "somewhere in the Southwest", on his way to Los Angeles. ''Live at the Jazz Workshop'' is a live album by jazz pianist Thelonious Monk, that was recorded at the Jazz Workshop in San Francisco. The album was recorded on November 3 and 4, 1964, and released by Columbia Records in 1982. ''Stop and Smell the Roses'' is the eighth studio album by English rock musician Ringo Starr. Released in October 1981, it followed the twin commercial failures of '' Ringo the 4th'' (1977) and '' Bad Boy'' (1978). The album includes the hit single "Wrack My Brain", written and produced by George Harrison, but otherwise failed to find commercial success. It also includes contributions from Paul McCartney, Harry Nilsson, Ronnie Wood and Stephen Stills. The album began life in mid 1980 as ''Can't Fight Lightning'', while Starr was signed to Portrait Records. After the label withdrew its support, the project lay dormant until he signed with the RCA subsidiary Boardwalk Records in 1981.
