Jan Versweyveld
Jan Versweyveld (born 1958) is a Belgian theatre set designer, scenographer and lighting designer. Biography Jan Versweyveld studied at the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Together with his husband Ivo van Hove, who he met in 1980, he created two theatre groups in the early 1980s: "Akt/Vertikaal" and "Toneelproducties De Tijd". Versweyveld then started working as scenographer for the Zuidelijk Toneel in Eindhoven in 1990, with Ivo van Hove as the director of the company. In 2001 he became the head of scenography and the main designer for Toneelgroep Amsterdam. Versweyveld has been a scenographer for dance company Rosas and for opera houses including La Monnaie, Palais Garnier, the Vlaamse Opera and the Dutch National Opera, and a guest lecturer at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Scenic Design
Scenic design (also known as scenography, stage design, or set design) is the creation of theatrical, as well as film or television scenery. Scenic designers come from a variety of artistic backgrounds, but in recent years, are mostly trained professionals, holding B.F.A. or M.F.A. degrees in theatre arts. Scenic designers create sets and scenery that aim to support the overall artistic goals of the production. There has been some consideration that scenic design is also production design; however, it is generally considered to be a part of the visual production of a film or television. Lee Hall (playwright)
Lee Hall (born 20 September 1966) is an English playwright, television writer, screenwriter, and lyricist. He is best known for writing the screenplay for the film ''Billy Elliot'' (2000) and the book and lyrics for its adaptation as a stage musical of the same name. In addition, he wrote the play '' The Pitmen Painters'' (2007), and the screenplay for the film ''Rocketman'' (2019). Early life Hall was born in 1966 in Newcastle upon Tyne, the son of a house painter and decorator and a housewife. He was educated at Benfield School in Walkergate. ''Lazarus'' is a jukebox musical featuring the music of David Bowie with a book by Enda Walsh. Inspired by the 1963 novel ''The Man Who Fell To Earth'' by Walter Tevis, ''Lazarus'' continues the story of Thomas Newton, a humanoid alien who is stuck on Earth, unable to die or return to his home planet. Lazarus had its world premiere Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop on 18 November 2015 and played until 20 January 2016. The show then made the transfer to the West End at King's Cross Theatre in London, playing from 25 October 2016 to 22 January 2017.
